I have a thru hull transducer airmar B175HW im planning on installing on my 2005 2120 parker. My question is after drilling the hole for the transducer should i seal the inside of the hull with a 2 part epoxy before installing the transducer? Im not 100% sure what type of construction the hull is. Is it cored fiberglass and wood? Also would 4200 suffice or should i go with 5200??

Perhaps some others may chime in but due to the fact the hull is a solid layup vs a wood core, my opinion is 4000 series 3m is fine for that installation. Sealing with an epoxy is definitely not a bad idea though.

It's not necessarily. Hull is solid fiberglass. Use 3M 4200......Not 4000UV

Read the directions....The arrow points at the Keel. Not Forward. That mistake has been made more than once.....People fail to read the directions.

Before you do the install...Run the nut up and down the threads and make sure there are no burs.....That happened to me once and caused problems.

Tape the face of the X-ducer.....Put a arrow on the tape that matches the arrow on the top side. Use a razor blade to trim the tape neatly around the face of the X=Ducer. You don't want Goop on it and you don't want to have to wipe the face with solvent.

After it bolted in...Run your finger around the X-Ducer to create a Lil fillet of 4200....Wipe / clean the rest of the 4200 away with solvent

That unit has allen screw bolts to lock the nut in.

If you have Not ordered it already.....Order the same unit for your Head unit.....But order it in a Mix and match.

That way...just a cable change down the road is all that is needed if the Head unit brand wants to be changed.

Do exactly what warthog says. He pointed me in the right direction a couple years ago, use 4200 if you ever have to remove it, it will come out without damaging the fiberglass if you use 5200

Dry fit first. When I did mine the hull thickness was at least 1/8 thicker on one side of the hole. I had to grind down one side on the inside of the boat so that the ducer and nut both sat flush.

Yes... That is a distinctive possibility.

Had the same issue with an Airmar B60. The installer cut and installed a spacer (nylon material) to account for the inconsistency of the glass thickness instead of grinding. Here's a pic:

Be careful using Starboard, very few materials stick to it.

Exactly. I've seen gelcoat get damaged from people trying to remove 5200 from fiberglass

I just installed a B175M on my 23DVCC and 4200 fast cure is the sealant to use. The instructions above by Warthog are good. There are also a couple good You Tube videos of installation of a B60. It is basically the same.

Windknot have you ever had a through Hull on the boat before? If not if not your going to love it I had several transom mounts and the sucked in comparison to the through Hull's good job and good luck

I've used 4200 Fast cure in the past. If your planning on dunking the boat in the water right away then yes.

the downside to 4200 Fast is you have to step up your game when doing the assy. It can be a hassle.

Normally I do not use it.

I was one of the first to ever install a B-60 X-Ducer......I'm not talking in a Parker.....I'm talking in the country.

There is /was a big write up on The Hull Truth [THT] about it....It ended up being a thread that was 8 pages long...It had a Lot of pix's.

I can also remember the B-60 advertised on Airmar's website.

I watched that add with baited breath for Damn near 3yrs...... It showed it.....gave spec's and said "Coming Soon".

Since then I've lost count of how many that I have installed.

I finally got around to installing it yesterday. How do i add photos? I keep trying to upload it and it says file to large? Is there a way to make a photo smaller on an ipad?

There is some pictures of the install. Hardest part was drilling a 3.75” hole in the boat[emoji12]I installed it on the starboard side in the middle between the keel and the first strake.

Dry fitted everything 3 times and chcked everything lined up. Found out as said before the hull thickness was up to 1/8” thicker toward one side of the hole closest to the transom. Nothing a little sanding couldnt fix!

Put a generous application of 3M 4200 on the transducer after taping off the outside of the hull and face of the transducer for an easy cleanup after.

Overall not to hard. It took about about an hour and half with the help of a friend and six pack of pacificos!

Are there some allen head bolts the screw into the nut as a lock device?

Maybe you took the pix before you installed them?
