This weekend I was going to replace the scuppers, which I believe are the originals. I was going to drill out the original screw holes and fill them with West Systems epoxy and bed the screws into the epoxy when I installed the new scuppers. I found the wood to be rotted when drilling. I had water drain out of two of the holes on the port scupper. The water apparently had been inside for quite a while because it was colored and resembled stain. I drilled 5 inspection holes from inside of the boat into the transom, two on each side of the motor, and one in the bilge about an inch or two from the bottom of the wood just over the drain. All holes looked to have rotted wood. Three of the holes above the deck had water seep out. See photos below.
So needless to say, the boat is out of commission until this is addressed. I was contemplating attempting this myself, but I'd like to get some estimates before deciding on that.
1) I'm looking for advice on whether this is something you would try yourself or would definitely avoid. I know it depends on a person's skill, and I've never done this before but not afraid to tackle it. I have a tendency to tackle projects I've never done before and am pretty patient, however I don't want to attempt this and find out I've gotten in over my head. I've searched and while I found some good info on transom repair on boatbuildercentral.com, the Parker transom is a little more complex with the boxes on each side that are built into the transom as well as the channels for wiring and hoses. Are there any threads on Classic Parker where someone has documented a transom replacement?
2) Looking for a ballpark estimate of what I can expect a professional to fix this. Also I'm looking for recommendations from DE to NC on reputable shops. Thanks.
