While servicing the engine (fuel injector and filter problem) I asked the mechanic to check my trim gauge and sender as it is NEVER correct.

He found that the ring that engages the trim sender was broken and spun freely on the shaft. I have ordered the part, but have a question…

How can I 'index' the ring to the sender when installing the new part? Is there a proper procedure or do I just 'fiddle' with it until it seems correct?

Thanks for any help.

Memory is a little shaky, but I'm pretty sure the ring has a plastic nub on the inside that will only fit in one position.

Found this pic on THT:

Thanks, Tom. When the part arrives, perhaps it will become obvious.

I installed the redesigned metal trim part a few seasons back and once installed, I just rotated to get the gauge bars correct and then tightened the assembly.

The old plastic ones tended to snap off with age.

Thanks. Brad. This was a plastic part and I suspect it just got old as you suggested. I hope the new part is sturdier.
