Sharking...JUNE is the one of the best months before you gotta switch pretty much to Tuna.

Then sharking again towards the end of summer, Septemberish

I would focus on a few more 50's and put the 80's on bent butts with swivel rod holders or a planer rod.

I am looking for and 80S or 80SW for my planer rod that I am building if you know of one.

Believe it or not, the trend is towords smaller tackle right now so there are alot of 50's on the market.

AGREED

I'm trying to pick up a few more 50 or 30 2speeds - if anyone sees any good deals on GOOD condition ones, please post

50 wides are all you need. Get some stiff standup poles (50-80lb class).
Unless you have a decent fighting chair 80's on boat rods are real cumbersome. I have one on the boat for the planer. On a bent butt.

Honestly, if the tuna you NORMALLY catch are less than 100# a 30 is fine.
String it with 40# and you're ready to go

I've seen more than a couple decent blue marlin (350-400lbs) caught on 50's. Catching big fish on the troll is mostly in the hands of the boat driver.

I know you guys fish plastic up there but I'm a meat hauler.
SeaWitches & ballyhoo is all a man needs to catch tuna.
Wind on 80 or 100lb leader. Fluoro if you got the $$$.
A couple of squid chain teasers for the riggers.
Maybe a bird for when its slick calm.Gotta have a pink one.
Get Blue & White Hawaiian Eye and a Sea Star &
You'll be a tuna catchin' machine.

Got me a YFT in the cooler from Saturday. Its time for some sashimi.

Go to Trophy Tackle in Babylon, Great place for offshore tackle. The Guys are great and will answer any questions you have. Good Luck

Ok so , i do need a bent but but need to save a few $$$

i am able to borrow 130 on bent butt's if i need too....

i am getting the NEW AVET RAPTOR tomorrow its a double drag and im gonna try that instead of a 30...

and i love bait!!!!

Ballyhoo and chunking are what i'd like to try..as well as pulling plastic

June 4th is my tentative 1st trip...boat gets splashed once I'm back in CT first week of May.

I'm gonna shark through June (or maybe a week earlier, depending on reports) then make my move to Tuna (again, depending on reports)

Everyone gets their pants in a knot when I mention it, but I've had great luck with my Pinnacle rod. I've got my TLD25 on it, and went with the 20-50 class rod. He makes one specifically for the 50-class reels, and I know some charter captains up here on the cape who begrudgingly say that those rods are as good as anything else, and they use them a LOT.

$165 +s/h for a 50-series rod, full roller... pretty hard to beat.

Northeast Tuna/Sharking- Avet Pro Ex 30w, hooked up to a Seeker Black Steel 6455XXH with 130 JB Hollow with a 80lb top shot, for sharks top shot with 25ft 300lb mono. GAME OVER!

Don't know if the tuna are different where you are than in Mass, but we have pretty much given up on using 30's or line with anything less than 130# breaking strength. the tuna get bigger as a class year after year. We were averaging 130-170# fish last year. That is a bit much for a 30.

Research an Avet 30 and it will blow away a Penn 50, Avet is a solid 40 lb drag. Penn 50 goodluck getting 28lbs

Was talking Shimano 50's. If the Avet's are that good, then great. I just can't see using a 30 on a 160# tuna.

Well assuming my wife doesnt have our expected son before august 1st

Ill be trying tuna as soon as 1 st reports come in

Have to get it in early comes 3rd week in july im gonna stay close to shore in case the baby comes early
