I saw this issue discussed on a few posts but I wanted to throw it out to the group to see how and what maintenance is done on a regular basis. I am a new owner of a 2310 and new to a boat with a bracket. I am amazed to see how much water gets splashed onto the cowling. It seems that it is just part of owning a boat with a bracket. My question is what maintenance has to be complete to keep the motor running well for years. And is there a point where to much splash on the motor is to much. It is hard to imagine that I will have to wash the inside of the motor after every use.

I rinse down the exterior of the motor with copious amounts of fresh water when I wash the boat.
Never had any water inside the cowling. The gaskets and baffling do a good job in keeping water out.

I'm in my 7th season with 2520XL with a 225F Yamaha on the bracket and I know what you mean about looking back and seeing all that salt water pounding the cowling. The outside of the cowling is easy to maintain with a scrub and occassional polish. Under the cowling I have only seen very minimal salt build up below the cowl gasket which is easily cleaned up. The motor above the cowling gasket shows no salt build up and I spray with WD 40 occassionally. I don't think it's an issue unless the cowling gasket is not seated properly. Mike

I hose it down when doing the regular boat clean up after a day on the water and periodically give it a turtle wax shine. As other's have said, no problems with water intrusion inside...

5 years and 785 hours on it so far, and the under the cowling looks basically brand new. Don't lose sleep over this one.
