Well, after two years of working on my list I finally took the boat out and did a "shakedown" run.
The boat is a 2520 Sportcabin MV with a Volvo Diesel.
I have done a lot to the boat in this time including a stainless steel, full width, swim step and a very large bait system.
In preparing for the bait system I looked at the same boat but the DV to get a feel for the waterline.
It looked like there were only a few inches of boat in the water. (same engine).
To my surprise and chagrin I found out that the MV (at least mine) sits quite a bit lower in the water.
My bait outlet was actually underwater and the scuppers were barely above the waterline.
I went back and installed a seacock on the bait outlet but I am concerned about the scuppers.
On my trip I noticed that with somebody standing in the stern that the scuppers dip under water.
Is this typical?
I was thinking about plugging the scuppers from inside and only opening them when we were underway and able to monitor them during washdown.
The boat ran ok though I added another half dozen items to my list.
I'll post a run down in the project section when I get good pictures together.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

I have a 1995 2520 MV with and outboard/notch set up and one of the things I particularly like is how high the scuppers are.We have some good size folks on board and can easily get 800-900 extra pounds of ballast near the transom and not have any problem with shipping water. Obviously the inboard, steel bracket and bait tank add a lot of weight but is it possible there is something else? I would imagine your core is dry if you've been on the hard for two years. On a buddy's Steiger we have a problem dipping the scuppers and do put in plus but you'd best be vigilant to take them out when leaving the boat.

I have a 2009 2320 dv and my scuppers are the same as you descibe. They sit just at the water line and when a person stands in the stern, water does come in. I spoke to parker about it and was told it was related to having the 250 four stoke on the paltform and the extra fishing station on the boat. They claim the extra weight from the bigger motor and hydralics in the second station make it heavy in the rear causeing the issue. They said it was comon and not to pay any mind to it. I dont like it and like you have considered blocking them off, but as for now wet feet is what I deal with. good luck......

Thanks for the replies.
I'm sure it will be ok but we do a lot of over-nighting on the boat and it is hard enough to get a little sleep without having to worry about the scuppers as well.
It will only get worse when the boat is ready to go fishing as the swim step was installed to hold the ice chest/fish box.
Any other experiences would be appreciated.

mine are also fairly close to the waterline, although i rarely ship any water. a solution i have considered in the past is the use of "ping-pong ball scuppers", for lack of a better term. basically, there's a small plastic cup with a plastic ball and a seat. when water tries to enter through the scupper, the ball shuts off the passage and prevents water from flooding the deck. the downside as i see is is that it restricts water flow out of the scuppers and also could be prone to clogging. but, depending on the severity of your problem, it might be worth it to you.

heres the site. the scuppers can be found under "products"

Thanks, I ordered a pair. They were only $7.00 apiece so it's worth taking a look at.
I have the flapper style scuppers on there now. Just a leaf will keep it open and the water slips in pretty easily.

IMHO the T-H Marine "ball" scuppers are a superior design, as you simply loosen 1 set screw, and the housing twists off for cleaning.

I had a set of those 'ping pong ball' scupper thingies on my Dusky and they worked great.
I think they are standard factory issue on all of the Duskys...

If I'm drift fishing and seas are on my stern, I can get a little water through the scuppers, but it's nothing I'm concerned about.
The more people who are standing back there, the more water, but again... it's not a concern. What comes in, goes back out.

Sounds like you will have a good bit of weight aft with the livewell, coolers, and fishbox, so the ping pong ball thingies might be just the ticket.

Have the "ping pong ball" style (not sure which brand), on my 2310. Took care of the problem to the point that I'd forgotten I ever had the problem. They make a little noise on a drift with the engine off as the balls suction back and forth. Kind of comforting actually...
