has anyone wet sanded their parkers. I'm positive the prevoius owner of our boat never put a drop of wax on it. Have read on other boards not to worry about thinning the gelcoat. Would like the opinions of other parker owners. The dull and white gelcoat is oxidized, but how "deep" can the oxidation go?????

You can sand with a da sander and 1500 to 2000 grit paper , than marine grade compound on a buffer than a good polish with a foam pad, and the last step is a good wax to keep it sealed. Lots of work but great results. It can be done in a weekend and your arms will be sore.

Gel-coat is tougher than automotive paint and 15-20 times thicker. How oxidized is the finish? Does it leave a white chalky residue on your hand?

Try using Monster Agua-Blue 100 and 200 buffing compounds with a wool pad. They are like wet sanding with 1000 grit and 2000 grit sand paper. Then follow with Blue Magnum 80% Carnauba wax or sealant.
