What are some good electronics to have

Whatever you get for fixed-mounted units, have hand held backup units. I have Raymarine fixed displays for radar+GPS/chartplotter and FF+GPS/chartplotter. If one unit died, I could move the chip to the other display and still get GPS/chartplotter for getting home. If I lost power at the helm, I could fire up the hand held VHF and Garmin GPS and still get home safely.

At the rate they keep shrinking electronics and adding capabilities, I wonder if they will ever have a hand held radar?
