I'm in the market for a small center console, and really like the Parker 21s--mainly the 21DV. The way Parkers are built it seems pretty hard to get a look at the condition of the tank and stringers. So, what do I look for to be sure as possible that the used Parker I like is still structurally sound and not rotted somewhere? Do Parkers have "trouble spots," such as transoms like some older Gradys and Seacrafts (not picking on Gradys or Seacrafts--great boats)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You have good questions and are correct in that it is difficult to visually survey what is under the floor of a 18-23 CC Parker. I have found that when a floor system has become compromised or has begun the process you can usually feel the spot or hear it by tapping the floor in the usual locations. Use the handle end of a boat hook or a straight solid pole to tap all over the floor. Listen for a change in the sound when there is a soft spot. Pay close attention to the areas where T-tops, leaning posts, and other screwed down items are located. I would also look for indications these items were sealed with 5200 or equivalent. This is usually a good sign the person that installed it knew what they were doing. There should be an inspection hatch on the floor at the stern where you can look inside some. I would tap near the tops of the visible (gel coated) stringers and listen for a soft sound. I have not read or seen many people with transom issues on Parkers. The transom is fully encapsulated then glassed to the stringers. On a side note, there are several 21DV Parkers for sale in Eastern NC.

Thanks for the info. One of the boats I'm considering is in E. NC.

Thanks. I talked to the guy (Andy) who has the first one you listed (without the T-top). Seems like a nice guy with a nice boat. Last time I looked for a smaller CC, everything I found had a fair amount of rot. I didn't look at any Parkers at the time. I don't want to waste my time, or wind up with a bad boat--that's why I asked the questions. Thanks again.

When you find the boat you want have a survey done. Best money you will ever spend.

I'm by Annapolis, MD. I'd have a survey done, but I've unfortunately been around for some pretty weak surveys.
