Am installing a floscan fuel meter, as with all of my boats. The factory yamaha one is nice, but twice as expensive. Had 3 or 4 before and find them very reliable. My question is w- a 2520XL w- F250 should I use a 0-20 or a 0-32 gph? Basically what is the burn at WOT? I understand that cruise should be 11-13. Thank-you

If it helps, I see 22.5 gph at WOT (5400) with a 250HPDI 2stroke on a 2520XL. Cruise is 13.8 at 4400. I think the 0 - 32 range system is probably what you want. The 0 - 20 may not provide enough sensitivity when it gets to the upper end of the range.

You could get up over 20 as mentioned -I know we definitely do when we start pushing it up above cruise

Thanks guys, I have a 0-20 on my Mako 22 w- 200 carb, it's pinned when it's opened up. Matt, whats your speed in knots at 13.8 cruise?
Are you using "flowscan" or Yam. gauges?

I max out at 21 gph on my Yamaha fuel management system. That's at 6,000 rpm on my F250. So I'd go with the 0 - 32.

I have a Standard Horizon FF41 which is no longer made under that brand name, but it is similar to the Uniden or Faria units that fit in a 2 1/8 hole in the dash.
My Northstar GPS shows 24.8 to 25.5kts at the cruise settings I described above.
Seems like the consensis here is the higher range unit. Easy install and gives another piece of valuable information to monitor engine systems. 8)

Check with Flo-scan and see if the total consumed is still accurate even if the needle on the gauge is pegged. If so, I would go with the 0-20 gauge. More fidelity. How many times and for how long will you be running at WOT anyway. Do you even care what the fuel burn is at WOT?

Keep in mind that with the F250 (and F200/F225) the needle is going to be jumping around any time the RPM is below 1000 RPM or thereabouts. Every time the lift pump cycles you will see the needle swing wildly to some high value and then taper off to next to nothing.

I'm inclined to agree with you jethro. It will give you a more accurate reading in the normal operating speed. I know for a fact that the totalizer still works when guage is at full scale deflection, since I often times operate my Mako with my 200 hp carb., close or at wot, and my gallons to refill are real close, within a few gals.
