Windshield wont stay up

I replaced one arm (sea dog) hoping that the windshield won't slam shut on me whenever I"m in sloppy cinditions. Is there a way to modify the arms so there is no way for it to shut while underway? I was thinking perhaps drilling holes through it and sticking a pin so the arm wont move around. I already broke a knob. What have u guys done to prevent this problem? I dont want to keep replacing parts

I'd guess you could grind or file the locking notch deeper. What I did, and my windows have never slammed shut, was to put a large stiff rubber washer on the post, then then a large SS fender washer, and then a lock-washer. This really allows the knob to provide some clamping force onto the support/opening arm.

...or you can make a set of these for a couple of bucks and they work perfectly. They are the nail guards for gutters. Cut to different sizes and rip the center with a saw.

Snap right on, right off.

Dremel, with a small cutting wheel. Just mark it with a straight edge, put it in a vise to hold steady and off you go!

Actually, I stole the idea from our very own GrouperJim. He suggested it, I just executed.

I don't know the thickness off hand but I can tell you that it snaps in place easier than it comes off!!

I have never had it come off yet.

i better get some credit for that thing... 8)

they do work well and are so cheap. i think you can get a whole bag of the spacers at Home Depot for less than $10.

the windshield staying up is not too much of a problem on the 23PH, but the the 25PH windows have the same opening mechanism and the windows are significantly heavier so they need a little help staying up in the rough stuff. being gray in color you don't even notice them.

another good trick (in case you have not figured it out yet) for ventilation in crappy wx is to open the window about an inch and then close the handle so the handle tab engages the aluminum channel on the bottom of the exterior window frame........fits perfectly and a fair amount of air will still flow with minimal rain/spray.
