Hi, I'm putting on a 9,9 high thrust kicker on my new 2520XL. can anyone tell me if they have the control unit in the pilot house and how you like it because my dealer said he does'nt recommend it because he said it will slip and the new 9.9 has the long arms on it with the friction control on the handle. and I strickly troll for salmon on lake MI. so I'm always playing with my trolling speed and it seems like a lot of work always going back to adjust my speed. would appreciate comments on what you guys think that have the contol unit. Thanks

Fred. I also added an extra control inside the cabin. It looks just like Johns. However, mine has no tiller and is mounted locked in the straight position and you the main motor as a rudder. Works ok as long as you don't need to turn fast or hard. But it is great not having to run back and forth. It also has power tilt.

Fred,

I got a new 2320 last year with an F250 and an 8 hp Yamaha for a "kicker" to get home with in case of a main engine failure of some type, but mostly the 8 horse is used for salmon trolling up here in Southeast Alaska. The dealer installed a separate in-cabin control unit for the kicker at my request, and it is excellent. I have not had any "slippage" problems, which would be easily noticed by the gps speed readout. Added advantages are being at the helm where I can easily listen to/monitor the VHF radio, watch the color video depth sounder, stay out of the weather, etc. The motor can be trimmed down, started, shifted, stopped, trimmed up from the helm. Only thing I have to do outside is squeeze the primer ball the first time in the morning. I also have a tie-bar between the main and kicker that makes steering very responsive, even in tight quarters.

I can talk all day about salmon fishing.........

If you ended up buying from Land's End one thing you need to know is that they don't really fish or understand it exactly. They are a wonderful dealer and have an excellent service department but you should figure out your fishing set up without them and just do it.
