Yamaha On Board Computer Hour Reading

I had my boat in for the 500 hour service last week and asked the mechanic to run the Yamaha software readout. I was surprised to see that it said I had 468 hours on my motor but the in dash meter says 524 hours. I asked the mechanic and he indicated that the in dash is not a true reading since it is timed based upon key being on.

I just bought the boat and I've put about 70 hours on it this summer. I thought I bought it with 460 hours but it must have been more like 390.

Anyone else had something like this?

He is right, the hour meter on the dash will start running with the key on but the engine not running.

I guess I got a less used motor than I thought.
