Run Away. Maybe they are better now but from past reports the 150 and 200 hpdis were good motors and the 250 and 300s were not so good. But not so good in comparison to a great motor isnt such a bad thing. Just had a few more problems.

When the 250 and 300 HPDI motors first hit the water, there were a number of issues with them. The problems persisted until Yamaha released updates to both the hardware and the software before the issues were finally fixed.

Unfortunately, even though the motors were sorted out and ran well after the updates, the perception about them being unreliable stuck like gum to the bottom of a shoe... and that perception, however undeserved, remains today.

It is unfortunate because the HPDI design is a good one. Heck, the 200 hp HPDI is one of the best that the company ever produced.
Today... it's all about the 4-strokes.

Run Forrest ... run  !

FWIW, the Suzi 300hp is lighter, faster, and less expenSive than the Yamaha ... provided you have a good dealer near you. I'd also argue that the Suzis have LESS motor issues than the new 4-stroke Yams, which are subject to VST, injector, and filter issues with ethanol fuels. No such 'equivalent' issues with Suzi motors ... and this info comes from area dealers!

A Sheriffs Department south of me has a 2520 with a 300 HPDI on it.
If I could find a smoking deal on one, I'd absolutely hang one on my boat.
