    2021 2302 Ride Quality

What Roccus said in many respects is true but other things to consider in regards to the hull and performance. Some of the smaller Downeast hulls don’t really have a keel. The 22 general marine drafts 12”—no real keel so no keel advantage. The 26 drafts 30”—yes keel. If you want to fish...

    Time for a bigger boat.

I’m always amazed at how much stuff you can get on a 28.

2320 set up for bluefin tuna

Here’s some excitement from fighting from the cockpit. It’s not pretty and shows how dicey it gets with the outboards. My wife got a little excited so video isn’t perfect. You can fight a fish ok from the cockpit if it’s out away from the boat but once it’s up the to leader things happen fast.

2320 set up for bluefin tuna

I put it together myself with a seat pedestal base. I had a friend weld a plate to the top. We fought a fish up there for 6 hours last weekend with the drag we’ll over strike—it’s rugged. There’s a bolt that runs through at the base and a small set screw in the side to snug everything up...

2320 set up for bluefin tuna

I fish for tuna with a 28 pilot house. I have three 0 degree rod holders on each side and one in the bow. The bow is definitely the easiest place to fight a fish but have landed plenty from the cockpit. I usually try to keep the fish off the side and towards the bow when fighting from the...

    Maine

I live in Cumberland Maine. The boat is nearby in Yarmouth and I work in Rockport, next town over from Camden. I grew up on Monhegan Island. If you have the time, Monhegan is great day trip or for a night or two. I’m usually striper, tuna or ground fishing on the weekends —send me a message...

Through Hull and Live Well Pump Install

Tunagi—Was able to run the new livewell/washdown pump this weekend. Both worked great. The new washdown is way better than the old one. I did try running both at once. When using the washdown it decreased the livewell flow minimally.

    Speaker Recommendations

I’ve had good luck with Rockford speakers and amps. They’ve been on the boat for about 4 years with no issues. The ones under the gunnels routinely get sprayed with water. My father has the poly planar boxes on his lobster boat. They take a lot of abuse outside fishing year round in Maine...

Through Hull and Live Well Pump Install

Did a quick sand and re-gel of the bilge. New bilge and livewell pump in place. Just need to wire and plumb. Went with the Rule 800 for the livewell. Replaced the old wash down with a jabsco hot shot 6. I’ll do an update once it’s in the water and operational. Comments/critiques appreciated.

Through Hull and Live Well Pump Install

I’ve been following this thread and have a similar project coming up. The livewell is 40 gallons as well. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fit a sea chest in my bilge but the smallest I could find is too tight. One comment was to stay away from shurflo. I have a new shurflo pump on...

    Holding Tank Replacement

In another forum I’d posted a pic of the removal of an old waste holding tank on my 2820 in regards to head odor. I couldn’t find the final install pics of the new tank. Here they are for anyone who might be interested in the future. After removing the old tank and foam I glassed in a step...

    New owner: 2820 XLD

I have Lees rh577xl and rh577 0 degree on my 2820–used for tuna—using bent butt #6. The 577xl are about 14.5” and the regular 577 are about 10.5”. Both work fine. Your reel height will be different when cranking depending on the rod holder length. Having the reel higher or lower may feel...

    Fresh water supply for head?

My 2820 started to have head odor smell that after flushing with multiple cleaners would not go away. Turned out to be leaky tank. The tank sitting in foam is poor set up because tank water can soak into the foam and smell will never go away. Ended up removing the tank along with two...
