    Cleaning the deck

My Marina doesn't allow the use of pressure washers at our slips. Not sure why. Liability? Maybe they offer it as a service and don't want competition. So I only get to blast away on haul-out and pre-launch. Consequently throughout the season I am restricted to occasional episodes of...

    New member from MA

Welcome to the Massachusetts Chapter of the ParkerHood and our woefully short boating season! Although, come to think of it, with gas prices what they are now, I'm not sure I could afford to add another month or two   You've found the right place for an all-you-can-eat...

In-hull Transducer Installation . Thinking inside the box...

From what I have read most transducer manufacturers acknowledge that for solid fiberglass hulls less than 1" total thickness, it is acceptable to "shoot thru" the fiberglass without appreciable loss of signal quality. Parker hulls are solid fiberglass. I guess you might lose some signal energy...

    Loudspeaker

My VHF is mounted down on the console below waist level, and the older I get the tougher it is to hear all traffic clearly from the internal speaker in the VHF.  Rather than move the VHF to the overhead position, I mounted a small external speaker up above the Stbd windshield...

In-hull Transducer Installation . Thinking inside the box...

Maxout, Great suggestion! :D Mineral Oil is pretty inert stuff, right? Just to be sure it's OK with the Rubbermaid poly container/silicone adhesive combo, I should probably put some in a test container and let is sit for a few days. I've also seen some literature recommending the use of...

In-hull Transducer Installation . Thinking inside the box...

Dale, The unit has a separate temp sensor/paddlewheel speed probe that mounts on the transom. Its a very small probe that I was able to attach to a mahogany block glued to the transom. In my opinion the transducer was just way too big a target to consider mounting on the transom. I would...

In-hull Transducer Installation . Thinking inside the box...

When I needed to replace my 6-element wide-array transducer for my 3-D depthsounder, I decided to try an in-hull wetbox method instead of direct epoxy or transom-mount. I had previously mounted the transducer in-hull (shoot-through the glass) using epoxy, but this time wanted to be able to...

    inside Transducer

I second that suggestion! :D I just today finished a project to mount a 3D transducer array (roughly 3"X5" square) inside the hull in a "box" filled with seawater. Works very slick. No epoxy on the transducer, and it's sitting out of harm's way in it's own cozy little water-box in the bilge...

Great link to some testing of popular anchors

Jim, Great article! Thanks for sharing it with us. These guys really pulled out all the stops when it came to testing every available anchor style. Some surprises in the results as well. Although I would have liked to see a little more testing on some bottom types other than long...

Spring Projects - Learn from my Mistakes :)

Good point with the bulb and exposure to sunlight. I will put it on the list for next year. Great tip on the grounding wire too... :) These are the kind of tasty tid-bits of knowledge you wouldn't even find in an Owners Manual! 8)

Spring Projects - Learn from my Mistakes :)

Thanks for the Post Tom. In retrospect, what was your evaluation of the condition of the OEM fuel line hoses you replaced? I have a model year 2000 and was thinking I probably need to tackle this project next year. Great write-up and contribution to the ClassicParker Knowledgebase. 8)

Beware of gas siphoning / consider getting locking gas cap.

Anyone remember back in the 70's when we had the first "gas crisis" and they sold a variety of devices that fit into your gas tank fill pipe to prevent siphoning? These devices were either conical shaped screens or springs that allowed gas to be poured into your tank, but prevented hoses from...

Wow! Great work TunaJoe! Radar, Transducer, the windlass,,,,, a spring project Trifecta!  I'm impressed! You've drilled more holes in your boat in one weekend than most of us do in a year! I'm jealous of the cable raceways in the newer model Parkers. Thanks...
