New tires mounted and balanced on replacement rims. Still waiting on an axle to mount them to... :(

Still waiting on a good axle to come in. I picked one up two Saturdays ago and while mocking it up I discovered that it had excessive toe-in. So I took it back and my supplier reluctantly ordered another one. They kept telling me that all the axles are build in a jig (which I believe) and...

I may end up going with this axle: http://www.easternmarine.com/8750-squar ... 0-lb-49857 Same overall length, but the track is 1/2" wider. No big deal. It's pre-drilled on the bottom (spring under axle) for a 70" spring center, but I need 72". Has super lube spindles. It doesn't bow in...

Springs and hubs seem to be cheap enough that it doesn't make sense to buy used. From what I'm finding, my axle dimensions aren't very common so I think I'll have to go new there as well. But as my luck would have it, I found a used axle that would have worked for me, but the seller refused to...

I've been pricing trailer and it looks like most are coming in at at least $1600 before tax and tags. That's more than I care to spend so I'm going to repair the existing one. As of yesterday afternoon, the plan was to do a quick fix so I can get it back on the road for the fall fishing...

I was hoping I could get away with some speedy sleeves, new hubs, bearings and tires, but since I am hoping to take the boat to NC next summer, I think that would be pushing my luck. There is significant rust on the axle tube where the brake flanges use to be and the last thing I want is to...

Traded in my Tacoma on a Camry for the wife and my Jeep is down with bad front axle u-joints, so the boat is pretty much stuck in the driveway right now. Given that I figured it was a good time to tear down the hubs on the trailer for inspection/maintenance. Both sides ran cool down the...

    Tropical Storm Hermine

Those rails/rings would worry me. Have you asked the dockmaster how long the lag bolts are that secure them to the pilings? I think in a severe weather situation I would run some additional lines to the pilings themselves. You never know how good the lag bolts are or whether or not the welds...

Prepping transom holes for transducer mount

Yep. I'm always looking for an excuse to use it cause I like how it smells. :D

Prepping transom holes for transducer mount

Just like painting a room in your house, the key to a good job is in the prep. I tape over all the holes I fill first, and then cut out with an Xacto knife. After I fill the hole, I sand it down with a flap wheel on my Dremel to a point where you just dig into the tape. Then I peel the tape...

Prepping transom holes for transducer mount

I usually go between 3/8" and 1/2" depending on the size of the screw, and I put a countersink on it. Don't forget to go deeper than the length of the screw as well.

Work continues... Started filling in the 20 screw holes that were left over from the 5 cheap, plastic rod holders that I pulled off. Drilled them out slightly and then put a nice countersink on each. Cut some 1/4" dowels to push into each and protected the surrounding areas with tape. Gave...

Parker 1801 - New Fuel Lines

Put a slice in the old hoses to help relieve the tension on the fittings. Clean off any corrosion and lube the fitting and hose with a little 2-stroke oil. They should slide right on. When I pulled new hoses in my old Grady CC, I just fastened the new to the old with a piece of scrap...

Got all of the bottom paint and primer off of the transom. What a pain in the ass... The paint itself came off easily a few weeks ago. Took me about 10 minutes with a simple scraper. The primer was a different story. There were/are spots on the hull where the paint and primer has...

Haven't run the boat in a couple weeks, but I did finish up some fixes on the trailer. Got the winch straightened out with two new e-rings from the local hardware store. After snapping those on and lubing the safety latch, it's nice and smooth now. There there was this... I guess when...

    tuffcoat

Another vote for Kiwigrip. Heard nothing but good things about it and that's what I'm going to use on the floor of my Maycraft when it's time.

Hoping to get back to gelcoat on the bottom. There's quite a few spots where the paint has completely flaked off and the gelcoat appears to have never been sanded. So I don't think it should be too difficult.

    Posi - Products Connectors

I installed a USB charging port in my wife's Jetta using those Posi-tap connectors. They came with the kit. I thought they were a pain in the you know what...

I also had this happen on Sunday... While loading her back on to the trailer, I heard a loud bang, the winch handle started spinning freely and boat rolled uncontrollably off the trailer and back into the water. Stripped the entire strap off the winch. Had to make a grab for the strap...
