I have a 2012 1801 60gal tank Yamaha 115 that I’ve noticed a fuel smell in the console and some fuel in the bilge. I’m thinking it’s the sending unit seal which needs to be replaced anyway since it always reads a full tank. Any suggestions on what sending unit and what length I would need?

By the fuel sender unit, there is a tank data plate . Take a pic of it then email the builder with it and HIN. They will have tank and stringer drawings. Tank was built by RDS or FMT. They might sell you a sender . Be sure sender is properly wired including ground. Buy an extra gasket, too. Check tank screw holes are good.

Moeller REED style sender.....Not the float arm style.

You have to pull the sender and measure tank depth to buy the correct one.

Note....Senders ONLY fit 1 way..[with the 5 holes....Clean the top of tank around sender before removing.....Put witness marks on sender and tank top......Then figure the orentation using the gasket to align with the holes.......This is harder to do down thru a pie hole. I have seen people screw up the top of a tank because they forced a screw in where it did not belong.

Do I need to use this same kinda connection or is there something different I could use to wire the new sending unit?

My original sender was 13" long from the factory. My tank is 16 1/2" deep. I replaced it with a 16" sender. Now when the last bar starts to flash it is going to quite very soon. You can use heat shrink crimps to attach the sender.

Reed style senders have a Black & White wire about 12in long attached and embeded in them. 2 crimp/ shrink connectors are the fix.
