I recently read a post on this forum that an older 23' DV Parker constantly has 6" of water on the deck b/c of the open transom. I just bought the above boat with out a seatrial b/c I had an 05 with a closed transom and loved it. They no longer make the SL with a closed transom. I have sence researched this debate here and other forums. I have read every comment from "open transom is the best " to " you will die if you have an open transom boat". Should I be concerned ? Any real world experience ? Would a very reputable boat builder really build an "unsafe" boat ? Especialy such a late model boat and eleminate that option ? I do fish offshore, anchor, & I am 20-30 miles out early spring in the Northeast. Do these posts refer to older boats with lower transoms ? I believe the parker is a 30". I hope I didnt make an expensive mistake. Thanks !

I have a 2520 DV with a notch transom. The boat is powered with a 250 Zuke Four Stroke. I have the optional 30 inch transom. Since purchasing the boat in 1998, I have never had water come over the transom. I don't have the splash well either. There have been times when waves have broken onto the transom and motor, and water has splashed, but I have never had water on the deck. I don't thing you have anything to worry about.

The only two times that I have felt uneasy with water coming over the transom was on a 23 Seacraft and a 26 Mako. Both times we had water that was over my ankles. Not a good feeling.

Good luck.

In a word, no.

Yes.
My previous boat was a Dusky with a notch and a 20" shaft motor.
Never had an experience where a wave flooded the deck, and I fished some really sloppy weather in that boat.

Don't anchor off the stern and you'll be good to go.
For that matter, don't anchor off the stern in ANY boat, notch or full transom.

From the looks of that lower unit, some real skinny water too. :D :D :D

Actually, I did! :D

If I had not found my Parker for the price that I got it for, I'd probably still own that boat.
She was very good to me.
