Hello, I'm thinking about buy a 2004 2120 with a 150 2cyl Yamaha. The eng has about 380 hours on it. A sea trial of the boat showed that the eng ran well and held plane at about 3900 =/- 100 rpm. The eng does seem to be a bit on the low power side for a boat with so much weight and 21 deg dead rise. I was just wondering what king of GPH, MPG can I expect from this type of set up. This will be my first Parker, and probably my last boat. At 60 plus it doesn't get easier each yr. By the way, the boat will be used on fresh water lakes.

Thanks Henry Lance Clover SC

Hi Henry and Welcome! You came to the right place for info on Parkers. I don't pretend to be an expert, but I can tell you about my 2120.

The Mokee Dugway gets right at 3 mpg running 27 mph sog in ideal conditions. Normal cruise is 4000 rpm. Top end is 37 mph at 5400 rpm. Facts are - MD lives on a trailer so the hull is always clean, but loaded with gas, gear and me she is at or over max weight. I tend to carry lots of gear.

The 150 HPDI has been really decent although I wouldn't mix ethanol and straight gas unless I planned on changing the 4 filters/separators/strainers before the injectors. You can hold a normal conversation at cruise speed with the PH door shut. IMO it has plenty of power for normal conditions, although I've been in some situations where I'd have welcomed more power. If I were to re-power today, I'd go with a 225 etec.

By the way, the MD normally spends the winter down the road from you at Spartanburg.

I'm a bit confused about the comment "I wouldn't mix ethanol and straight gas unless I planned on changing the 4 filters/separators/strainers before the injectors"

I am aware of the ethanol problem, but the mixing is something new to me. Granted I sold my last Boston Whaler Outrage in 2006. It was a 1993 boat and yamaha 250, that I purchased in 2003, and sold in 2006. I seemed to be having carbs rebuilt all the time, mostly because the boat sat for very long periods of time. This whole filters/ethanol issue is my biggest worry about this used boat and motor package. To me it seemed to start and run great in a 45 deg day 3 weeks ago ( up north ). I did see that the eng had a yamaha fuel filter inline, I think its the 10 micro unit. I am wondering if I can change all the filters before the injectors, or is this more of a service tech job.

Being used I have know idea what type of gas has been used. It has been docked, so if the marina was a good one, they were selling ethanol free gas. I think we have one gas station about 3 miles away that sells ethanol free gas. He gets a lot of bass boat guys stopping by on the way to Lake Wylie.
Any idea of the GPH. That figure has always been more useful to me

Sorry, should have said E10. Use E10 or ethanol free gas, not both. If using E10, get a Racor filter/water separator in place of the Yamaha spin on and keep an eye on the bowl for water. MD normally gets E10, but several times on trips she got filled at marinas with non ethanol gas resulting in problems. We went back, put her on the trailer and changed the VST filter and Racor preventing "Triptus Interruptus".

No doubt you can do the spin on filter. Installing the VST filter and others depends on your comfort level. Plenty of people here can help answer questions. Andy at SIM http://www.simyamaha.com/ has been very helpful. He answers questions in his forum on THT http://www.thehulltruth.com/shipyard-isl-marine-engine-parts-22/
Otherwise, have your tech do individual filter replacement at recommended intervals as part of regular maintenance.

Hey, I'm left handed. I always do things the long way. e.g The GPS says 27 mph and the fuel computer says 3 mpg. That means she's burning 9 gph.

A knot is what I put in my tie.

Mokee,

Just lazy on the math part. Since the 1960’s I have always just topped off the tanks, recorded the number of hours the eng ran for the trip ( most fishing days were 8 - 10 hours inshore ), topped the tanks off, and calculated the GPH. Usually did this several times a season, and got a good feel for my overall usage. It always seemed to be very accurate.

Yes, I knew you meant E10, but I still can’t see why ( or have never read about ), the harms of mixing E10 gas and non-E10. Having worked in the laboratory field for 30 years, but not the petrol end of laboratory work, I am a bit fuzzy as to the why not (mix), reasoning. I’d really enjoy some places where I could read up on the issue. SInce I am unsure of the gas in the tank, I’m wondering if one fill up of which ever would be harmful. I guess I have a 50 / 50 chance if putting the same type in or not.

I would have thought that the 10 micron yamaha filter would catch all the snot and junk that would clog carbs and injectors, and most of the water. In my last 21 foot outrage I used the yamaha filter, ring free, in the tank, and startron in the tank. I’d love to be able to have the tank pumped out, and flushed, but there is no one in the charlotte area who will do it.

Although the Yamaha 150 on the boat seems to be fine, I guess I need to have an independent service tech go and check the eng out, and try to get a computer print out of it’s history. From what you are saying I’d probably just be better off doing full service of all the filters if I get the boat, regardless of ...

I was hoping that some others would jump in here with their gas mileage info. Maybe I should post in the general forum section.
