Has anyone ever relocated their fuel fill from its vertical position atop the gunwale to a horizontal spot somewhere nearby? I am a habitual deck sprayer both while on the water and back at the house on the trailer.

I am SO paranoid that the fuel cap's O ring will fail and start letting water into my gas tank. Almost let myself start spraying down the deck the other day while fueling was in progress. That would have obviously been devastating!

I know the simple answer here is to get myself in check with the spray nozzle! Just curious if anyone has taken on this obscure project.

Yeah, put the hose down and just perform regular maintenance on the o-ring if you are that concerned.

Don't cut up your boat.

Sounds a little OCD to me. Stop doing that. :D

if the O ring is in the good condition (it can the replaced and lubed) and the cap is tighten until it is snug, that is sufficient

Key word here is snug, not tight. Same goes for the cap on your oil tank (if you run a 2-stroke).
The o-ring will seal the cap, but don't over tighten, over tightening can damage that o-ring.
