2310 Horse Power?

I'm new here and considering a 2002 2310 with a Yamaha 225. I'm concerned of this boat being underpowered and want to know what you think.

I have a 2006 2320 with a 200hp Yamaha. Most would say it's underpowered but I don't necessarily agree. It all depends on the load you're carrying. I frequently fish alone and with 1/2 to 3/4 tank of fuel, no bait tank so my load is relatively light. I also get great fuel economy. However, if I have 4 or 5 people on board and a full fuel tank then yes I feel a little underpowered.

What's the weight difference between the 2310 and 2320?

The 2320 is 4100 lbs dry. Add another 500 lbs for the outboard, up to 800 for fuel, plus batteries, gear and passenger weights I'm probably at least 6500 lbs.

I just sold a 2002 2310 with the yamaha F225. With 4 guys, 150g of fuel, 60g bait tank and plus all the other gear, I felt the power was fine. I had the permatrim, 4 blade prop, and 24x12 tabs, so i could get on plane very quickly. You will not be dissappointed with the F225, escpecially when you are getting 2.3-2.6mpg and cruising at 27-28mph.

Sorry, I have no idea. Usually not an issue I have to worry about fishing out of San Diego.

If I were buying a Parker 23 DV new, I'd get either the 250 or 300hp engine (for this discussion, brand is unimportant).

But as others have said, if you aren't running with 150+ gallons of fuel, 200lbs of ice and 4 guys for a fishing trip, a 225hp engine would be fine. If you are primarily using the boat for cruising around the lake, sound, rivers or near coastal ..... again the 225 would be fine.

But if you are regularly running heavy, I'd get a larger engine than the 225 unless the boat your are considering is priced aggressively. If you are dead set on this boat (due to price, location, easy of acquisition, set-up, appearance, etc) and you know that you regularly run heavy, then you can simply run a 15 or 16" prop and get similar performance to a larger engine albeit at the coat of a lower cruising speed (say 24-25 mph at 4200rpm instead of 27-30mph at 4200).

I have a 2013 2310 typically run with 3 or 4 guys, 30 gallon bait tank, 100 lbs ice in box and 1/2 to 3/4 tank. Never felt underpowered. With decent seas can cruise 25-30 mph at 2.7 to 3.0 mpg. If it’s sloppy can slog at 20-22 and 1.8 to 2.4. Been very happy with it.
