2801 Center Console Yamaha Outboard Mounting Position

Does anyone have experience on the mounting position of Yamaha outboards on 2801 Center Consoles. My Engines are mounted in the second hole from the top. Problem is I keep the boat in a wet slip and the lower unit sits 2" below the water surface right where some of the cooling water inlets are located. I for see this causing me problems with marine growth in the cooling water inlets. Does anyone have experience on performance of the 2801 with the engines mounted in the top holes? Is there a problem with cavitation?

I had mine mounted as high as they would go without any problems. If you don't want to go that high, place the engines in the 4th hole.
