I have a 92 18 center console. It has a 90hp Yamaha on it with a bad shift rod.
Its time to repower. My question is with what? The Yammie was fine but not a speed demon. I'm thinking a few different motors. Can someone tell me their experience with their 18 center?
135h.o. Etec, 90 hp Yammie 4 stroke and the like? Just curious what will be the best motor for the boat...
Thanks

If you want a new engine, I'd go with a 115 or 130 Etec, weight is a big concern. Or an 115 Optimax depending on local dealers. Maybe a 90 4S if you found a light one.

Or look for a 115 Yamaha 2 stroke in good shape, think they made them til 06? One comes up every now and then.

I have a 115 Yamaha 4S on my 1801. Always starts, never stalls, and pushes the boat to better than 30 MPH. The stern does not squat and the scuppers work just fine. Plenty fast for thee conditions I run in.

I have a 1990 18 with a 2001 Mercury 90 2 Stroke. Pushes the boat 34mph with a 15 pitch prop at 6000rpm. I cruise at 4000rpm. She is great on fuel. It is a little underpowered when I have 4 people on the boat, however, it still will run 32mph. Getting ready to put a jackplate and hydraulic tabs on which will help tremendously. Good luck!
