I want to upgrade from 3 strand twist to 8 plait, I have been doing some searching and reading. The 3 I am looking at are Anchorlift, Lewmar and Defender (in house splice).I would like some comments if anyone use any of these, or has any suggestion.
Thanks Walt. btw 15' 1/4" chain 200' 1/2" rope min

I've had the Defender a few years with no issues. If you wait long enough they go on sale periodically.

This is where I bought mine. Possibly the best prices availible that I could find at the time. Brand new 300 feet of 8 plait with 20 feet of 1/4 chain. Purchased as a back up for the boat, been sitting in the garage for a while. I think I paid around $200 and I doubt I will ever get to use it. 8 plait by lewmar is some good stuff and is essential for trouble free windlass operation.

Just picked up some 8 plait from Seco South-When i called them they said they make the rode for Lewmar. They will do any length and will also do the splice for you. I had them put 15 foot of chain on either end that way if get stuck in the wreck and need to cut off all I need to do is reverse the rode and am ready to go.

they were the best price i found

One should reverse the rode every year or two anyway for best use and long life. Plus an end-of-season soak to remove any salt build-up.

Dale... I wash my dock lines (in mesh bags) at the end of every season.
Put some fabric softener in the rinse cycle and they will be "babies butt soft". :)

You would.

Back when I raced Hobie Cats, I would put all the rigging including blocks, cam cleat, travelers, sheets, halyards, anything that would fit into the dishwasher, then air dried and lubricated.
