i bought the bennett bolt trim tabs. i mounted the tabs on the boat...no problem. when it comes to mounting the rocker switch...DONT GO BY THE DIRECTIONS the directions and template says to drill a 2 inch hole in your dash. well 2 inch is too small. i called bennett and they agreed it was a mistake. now i have a 2 inch hole that needs to be 2 1/2 inch. whats the easiest way to make it the correct size now that i already have a hole there?

Always sucks when things don't go as planned.

Quickest way......

Assuming you have 2.5 inches of room in that location you'll need to cut the new hole over the old albeit without the pilot drill to guide it.

The new hole sans the pilot bit will not be as easy to start but once started is easy enough to finish. Run the appropriate sized hole saw in reverse to score/groove the gelcoat. Once you're comfortable that it won't jump around on you, start it forward and make the cut.

Easiest way........

The only other way I know of to make the cut easier is to use some Marine tex or any quick setting epoxy to put the old plug back in place. This will bring the pilot bit back into play for an easy guided cut. I use Marine tex because it sets up quickly.........many different ways to put the old plug back in.

Yah put the plug back in and affix it with bondo around the edges put it on like spreading on butter. Put it in the hole and let I set up should take about 35minutes with a hot batch

What I would do is drill a 2.5" hole in a piece of wood and used that as a guide.. Put that board on top of the 2" hole and drill.

Yep........that will work too.

Assuming you have room behind the dash screw a piece of wood behind it to cover the hole and use a slightly longer bit in the hole saw to get you started

There is a post over on THT for ths same thing. There is a bit you can buy, I forget what it's called, weird name, you can mount two blades on one bit. In this case you can probably get one 2" hole blade and a 2.5", put them on the same bit, stick it in the drill and viola. In the video, it worked great. Not sure how big they come in though. I will see if I can find the video.

The oops hole saw worked perfect. Bennett should pay me for the hole saw I needed to fix their mistake. Instead....I needed a 5 foot extension of their wiring.....$22 + $15 shipping. $37 for 5 feet of wire. BS if you asked me
