Anyone have one of these on the Parker?
Mine is in the batt box, saw some corrosion and want to pull it out and clean it up.
There is ZERO slack in either of the wires so movement is minimal. I'm assuming the red rubber top pops off and then there are nuts under there? Think I should replace it once it's off and if so, anything very similar on the market? I don't think I've seen anything like this on Defender or Jamestown, etc ?
 
Tim: I have one of those. They tend to go bad every few years and I actually keep a spare on board. Cecil Marine stocks them.
 
After experiencing the same failure twice, I installed a Blue Sea 50 amp resettable thermal circuit breaker. Two years and so far no problem. Since the original is up against the transom, mounting was not a problem. A nice extra feature is that the breaker can be tripped manually to shut off power, and therefore be used as a theft deterent like a battery shut off switch.

I did that too, but placed the breaker in a tupperware box mounted to the transom. Holes with grommets were put into the round box @ 7 & 5 o'clock, then sealed with silicone. Some dielectric grease put into the lid groove, and then the lid put on. Safe, secure, dirt and water-resistant, if not free. Poor man's NEMA-rated waterproof box ;) !
 
I picked up one of those Blue Seas breakers, just waiting for the temps to get above 25 degrees so my fingers are more flexible :roll:
Just an FYI, Eric at Parker told me it was a 40A breaker and I double checked the wiring schematics for my 2520 and confirmed it was 40A.
 
You need to match the amperage rating with your old one, or an amperage rating that will be suitable for the wiring.
 
The sheetmetal breaker in the pix is a piece of crap.

Boat manufactures use them because they are cheap. I did some work recently on a 2011 Sea Hunt. The customer called and said he lost all the electronics and lights that I had hooked up. I told him to bring it back. This was a area I did not mess with, but knew right were to go to fix it. It was fixed in 5mins as the posts rust. But this was a BRAND NEW boat. :(

The correct way to fix it is a Blue Seas 185 series flush mount breakers.

There was a recall on the Yellow handled breakers 187's many many years ago. By habit I buy the 185 series units.
