not too hi-tech of a post here but have tried tennis balls, tape, old plastic cups, I think these reused yogurt tubs work good so far on this sad day :cry:

So that they don't puncture the tarp covering the boat for the Winter layover ...

FWIW I made up a shallow upside-down "U" of PVC that goes in the 2 end ones and 1 amidships one ... to keep the tarp supported off the holders.
