My 1801 deck cap has what appear to be 3” aluminum “tabs” “angle iron “ or brackets that are screwed to the cap and parts of the hull, stiffening the deck. Some are missing. Does anyone know a source for these?

Agreed! Any welding shop can fab those from 316 stainless steel 1/8 flat stock with a press break. Either remove one for a pattern or take some good measurements. FYI if you indeed have them fabricated have the shop punch/drill the holes. Drilling holes in stainless is a frustrating experience without the proper tools/tooling.

Any reason not to use aluminum? I showed the picture to the metal worker and they said the existing brackets appear to be aluminum.

Aluminum will Work fine as well. Some aluminum can “blacken” and leave black streaks but those wipe up fairly easily.
