Found Her and bought Her-2005-2520xl, 250Yamaha 4 stroke. looks like new, minimum time and no electronics. I get to start fresh! I've been out of the market for 8 years. By far the most important piece is the fish finder, it will go to Alaska and fish in plankton rich water so power is important. Next is the GPS, VHF, and maybe a radar (it does not see logs, nor rocks), last year it would have gotten me only 8 more hours of fishing out of 30 days, it could be considered emergency equipment. An autopilot, weather info, entertainment, etc., only if already in the equipment or of little cost. After many hours of reading Classic Parker, which I find of great value, I have come to the conclusion that whatever I buy will be dated as I go out the door and might not have tech support or warranties as several companies might be out of business shortly. I would like to look through the hull, no cutting, or transom mount, use the sounder to 20 kts if possible, flush mount the screen and would like it to be 8 to 10 inches in size. I would like to put a smaller screen on the transom for use when on the kicker. User friendly is important-I am very slow but not all together stupid as my eigth boat is a Parker. I would consider more then one instrument, sounder/GPS if it did not run up cost too much. This is a mouth full but a chance to put together the right stuff. One other thing, within reason, I have found my fathers advice of fifty years ago to be correct. Price is soon forgotten but quality is long remembered. John

The Garmin units are great. The only problem is they dont make the best bottom unit but if you go with the new 1KW Trans you should be happy. Do it one time and spend the money even if you have to wait before you buy. this topic could go on for days one thing I would do is find somone that has a unit like you thank you like and ask to check it out on the water. That sounds crazy but it makes a diff.

Garmins stuff is pretty user friendly especially if you get touchscreen. If you can steal a 3210 before they are gone. They are pretty good units network compatible just not the new stuff like 42 and 52 series. I have a 1kw ducer that shoots thru hull from airmar. It reads up to 20kts and i think close to 1000'. You should be able to network a radar in with it. Plus hooking up a second screen is plug and play.

Here are a couple of ideas for you, including a 'visual' for placement.

The flush mount chartplotter is a Garmin with a 10" screen. With care, you could probably mount a 12" unit.
Garmin makes some of the best chartplotters on the planet, and the new touchscreen models are awesome.

The sounder you see there is an older Furuno FCV600L. I prefer to seperate the sounder and the plotter.
You would probably want to step up to the 1k model sounder for the area's you'll be fishing.
Furuno sounders and radars are world class and hard to beat.
For a transducer, get an Airmar. They are quality.

For the VHF, I personally prefer the Icom 504 paired with a Digital antenna.
VHF technology keeps getting better every year so look around and select a radio with the features that you want.

You will notice that I keep a handheld in a charger on the dash.
That radio stays on Ch16 so I don't miss any local hails or CG messages.

Take some time to think about placement of your equipment.
I wear glasses with progressive lenses, so you will notice I don't have any equipment mounted up high.

Mount your equipment to gain the best sightlines while running, and especially if the weather kicks up.
Cranking your head up to view screens mounted up high while looking through the 'reading' part of your lenses isn't fun.

When you are ready to buy, find your best prices, then call Jim Maier at BOE Marine.
Jim will match or beat the best prices you can find. 866-735-5926

Hope this helps!

Congrats and welcome aboard!! I have a Raymarine E-80 system and later added another networked display. I also have the in-hull, shoot thru, 1KW Airmar transducer.

I will post some pictures I collected for ideas before adding the second display. Steve J and Merlin showed me the mount he used and I went with that. I help these help more than confuse you.

No matter what brand, model, or configuration you choose, Im sure you will be happy with it, they have all come along way.

One thing for me when it comes to mounting is the VHF has to be up high. that way you dont have to look down to set the CH or Vol and the speaker is head high so you dont have to crank it way up to hear it

Not many "radio boxs" in cabins. No more speaker things for me done that ,everything that you add on adds time in maintenance.keep it simple

many of the garmin and raymarine units are real nice. it all depends on how big you want the screen size to be because the large the screen the more money it will be
