Hello All!
We just purchased a new-to-us 2520XL. The boat was located in FL but is on the truck to Maine. Due in on Tues AM. Did I mention that we are stoked? We think the 2520xl might just be the perfect Maine boat.
I have a concern about using ethanol fuel. In FL (with other boats) I have always been able to find ethanol-free fuel and it has been a relief not having to worry about frequent carb rebuilds. Of course, in Maine boats spend more time out of the water in winter storage and I'm concerned about how to store the boat for the winter. How do you prevent ethanol related problems over the winter. Fill the tank and use an ethanol treatment? Drain the tank completely? Then what?
What say the group?

I would not put any ethanol fuel in my tank period. Treat with stabil for ethanol and or SeaFoam. I also only store for about 2 to 3 months due to my local weather so I don't have much of an issue with it. When I do store, I try to get my tank as low as posible on fuel. Lots of opinions on that however. Congrats on your new Parker!

I use ethanol free or e zero gas and boat every 3 or 4 months in southwest Florida. I am still working and Florida home is a getaway. We decided to keep as little gas as possible and buy fresh gas at each visit and use only Yamaha ring free

When E-10 fuel showed up I'm my area at the fuel docks I was concerned.
I should not have been.

For the first season after switching to E-10, I changed my fuel filter monthly.
When filling up, I treated with Sta-Bil, Star-Tron, and Ringfree (1 oz per every 10 gallons of fuel).

I still do that same fuel treatment every time I fill up and have *never* had a fuel related issue.

"I treated with Sta-Bil, Star-Tron, and Ringfree (1 oz per every 10 gallons of fuel)."

Yamaha Master Mechanic i regularly fish with preaches this same combination - esp important to my hpdi 200 (he has noted) are the ring free and sta-bil. i do religiously, no way to avoid e10 in the NE so no exceptions on the additives other than some extra Sta-Bil if i'll be away and not running the boat for a few weeks.

similarly, i have had zero (pause while i knock wood) fuel related issues.

Congratulations on the new boat 8)

I learned my lesson with E-Free fuel on my last boat. Never again will I use it. It's worth it in the long run to pay the extra money and buy E-Free.

Try this site.

Yeah, I wish ethanol-free was a viable option for me. A review of the Maine page shows 13 places, 8 of which are airports. None of the remaining five are anywhere close to me. I can't imagine how I would fill my 170 gal. tank! I've been told that most airports won't sell fuel for non-aviation uses. Finally, back in my flying days, that was 100 octane. Don't know for sure but I'm guessing that would be harmful to the Yami.

What I'm really interested in is what kind of cocktail you use in your tank to mitigate ethanol...Startron, StaBil, SeaFoam, some mystical combination of all of them? Also, do you top off the tank before storage or do you run it as empty as possible?

Sta-Bil, Star-Tron, and Ringfree. 1 oz of each per every 10 gallons of fuel.
I don't worry about how much fuel is in the tank at the end of the season.
Treated like this, I've never had a problem.

use the site http://www.buyrealgas.com/ which I only see 6 places in the whole state of Maine. :(. I have 5 in my town.

You are lucky. I just checked that site and got this:
Unfortunately in Delaware we have no ethanol free stations. This may be due to legislation.

Just a FYI Kev....... I get 3 more MPG in town with my mustang with non ethanol.

Geo Bush Jr. originally passed the Ethanol deal. :(

I don't worry about fuel when the loud pedal is firewalled.
