Fire extinguishers

I buy Basic Kidde marine fire extinguishers and remove from boat when not in use

Does anyone know expected shelf life?

Should they last. 2 or 3 years?

Is there a better brand or model?

They have six year warranty but in two or three years the dial shows replace

They have not been used or tested and stored in house when not on the boat

i use to be a fire inspector fire ext. need to have a 6 year maint. done but some of the fire ext. used on boat are the throw away kind and they are not rechargable but if they are kept rust free and dry they will last also turn then upside down and loosen the powder inside by hitting with a rubber mallet <powder will cake up over time >
