Hey guys, Whats your opinion on who makes the most trouble free free fall windlass? It will be mounted on a 255dv steiger. Also what anchor?

The 14" Delta FastSet is the size typically used on our 25 footers, tho I went with a slightly larger Hydrobubble 'Captains Choice' on my boat which has a similar plow design.

for holding power.. Make sure you have at least half you boat length in chain!

Actually...Chapman's recommends 1x your hull length.

I had 10' of chain on the OEM rode and had trouble staying on the bottom in swift current. At the CBBT one night, the current was so swift that when I lowered it, the current brought the anchor up and it smacked the chine (see my gelcoat A to Z thread on how I repaired it). I cut out the chain and went to 30' Benny of that drill was that I learned how to do a rope to chain splice.

I see a chip in the gelcoat on that almost perfectly maintained boat.

Good to know. i was going by what the boaters world guy told me  . I have 15' (or 20) of chain an will have to add at least another 10'

FWIW, I have had zero troubles with my Quick windlass. I dont have a free fall model though.
