I bought a gas jug for 20 bucks and remove the cap and pour into a large funnel I hope it works better than the old style ones

Brent I know the safety cans are a pain to use, but accidents happen when you least expect it. I realize from reading all of your posts you are certainly no dummy, but I would keep using the safety cans with the automatic shutoff valves. Among being and estimator/project manager for an electrical contractor, I am also in charge of the safety for over 100 guys. My saying is " The biggest part of your job is showing up at the dinner table every night!!". That goes for you too

I dont know if we are on the same page

Those inexpensive, plastic and common plastic gas cans with the spring loaded device on the nozzle are awful, un safe, poor design and leak, and gets my #1 POS award. I have removed them all. I have been working with flammable chemicals, other chemicals, infectious agents, etc for 40 yrs consider myself and my employer safe and safe workplace (zero, repeat fire accidents in 40 yrs and we use xylene like coffee). At work we have Justrtite or Eagle metal safety cans with spring loaded cap to dispense various chemicals and solvents. These are a royal pain to use and easy, I mean very easy, to have a spill. We have spill kits all over the lab. Safety means dispensing is safe and practical , and not obtuse and making it difficult, complicated and or accident prone. We spent alot time and money making our workplace safe and regular safety audits not the desktop jockey ones reading a checklist, I mean someone watching and taping work, and watching a another Power Point talk discuss the results. I may not be the best mechanic, boat repair person or fisherman but I am well trained working in the lab working with chemicals and infectious agents. The Admiral was on safety committee at a local multi billion dollar pharma company for 30 yrs, and they do everything from soup to nuts, and she is an excellent resource and sees large spills, way more than 5 gallons. How about 40, 000 liters spill? You better order some Depends LOL

Again I ferry gas to my boat and dispense, and not for long term storage

The jug I bought is made to handle gas except the vendor didn't register with UL and other places for the gas storage to obtain a gas rating and want to spend more money for the brand name ones like JUggs bc RuraL KING has these for $20 plus tax
The jugs are better, thicker cell wall, and well made It has a vent whereas the inexpensive ones may not and these the cell wall thickness are inconsistent and just drop one of the inexpensive full of gas and watch the side split and that stupid safety nozzle and assembly fly off

For both types, I remove the entire cap just like it is removed when filling
I remove the cap and dispense into a large funnel that the opening is large as iPad and dispense
It is fast and doesn't take long to empty and easy, in my little mind, better than using a safety nozzle
I bought the jug too bc the opening after removing the cap is larger than other jugs, and will dispense better with less than chance of spilling or slipping out of my hand

but I dont know everything and have an open mind so let me have it . Thanks a million

Brent, please remember, you have a lot of experience and training, the ideas we post on this site are read and used by younger inexperience people some of which have had no safety training what so ever. Im done if you want to holler at me again. Thanks Mike

I'm with Brent. What was so wrong with a simple Jerry Jug that we used for 60 years? (named for the gas cans the Germans used in WW II)
They were simple and safe easy to use. Liability laws these days have added so many "safety devices" to products and tools it makes them awkward (unsafe) to use....

I bought one of those "safety jugs" because it was the only thing a parts house sold when I needed one. The guy told me they banned everything else and that's all they can legally sell now. This thing is terrible, and very easy to leak. Actually Id say more like almost impossible not to leak when using it. I also have one of these motocross style jugs I bought for my motorcycles. Its the only thing I trust when filling up my boat on the water. I rarely do it, because of the risk of spills, but have had to use it when fishing somewhere remote. Its also what everyone else seems to be using on the docks from what I've seen, regardless of what's not the law.

Yep that's the one Ive got, that thing leaks like a sieve. I use it now for the lawnmower, and take the nozzle off and try to slop it into the mower. What a terrible design

Actually, I took a piece of rebar and a hammer to the guts inside the stem and knocked them out. Now I have an old fashioned Gerry jug!
If anyone turns me in I will vigorously deny everything! In fact, I'm not even sure that I was the person who sent this email! :D
