Guidance please - Drain Plug on a Lift

Hello. We have our 2520sl on a lift down on the lower potomac. I have read many posts regarding the drain plug. Some take it out, some leave it in and then keep the bilge powered. The issue, as you can imagine, is that it is impossible to get to it to remove the plug off the stern when the boat is up on the lift. I called Tri-State this afternoon, as I can not be the first person to not know what to do with this. Their advice was that when the boat was up and out, the plug should be out. The plug is threaded to the exterior of the stern and I cant believe that I could get it in and take it out through the stern hatch.

I have found this site to be the most constructive site out there as it relates to helping me navigate issues.

My opinion in the water or on a lift leave it in. You only take it out in the winter for storage. Just my 2 cents.

That would be my advice as well.
Now if you were trailering, I'd remove it, but not when she is on a lift.

Seems like room for error to me, someone doesn't know you took it out the marine assumes its in the boat goes in with out the plug in....... id leave it in

Do you guys wrap your plug with teflon tape to assure a tight fit?

When we went to put it in the plug didnt sit all the way into the drain - got about 4 threads in - but it is not flush....

Leave the plug in when on a boat lift.
Wrap with tape.

The only time the plug was out, was over the winter (storage).

I had the unfortunate experience that electrolysis ate the bolt that was holding the boat lift motor to the piling.
the motor 'fell off", the lift dropped, the boat ended 50% in the water, 50% on the lift.

Because the plug was IN, no major damage, just some cosmetic issues.
