Pulled out of my slip a little after noon today for my last run of the season.
It had been foggy earlier, but the creek was clear under overcast skies and low 50 degree temps.

By the time I made it into the Bay, it was obvious that this wasn't going to be a quick trip across to Matapeake.

Canvas full up, all windows open, main VHF on Channel 13 to monitor shipping traffic, and the handheld on Channel 16.

I could see breaks in the clouds above where the sun was trying to push through, but the fog was holding tight to the water.
Head on a swivel, listening for fog signals, looking for fishing boats (saw about a half dozen), and pushed forward at 7.5 kts.

As I got closer to the eastern shore, the sun started breaking through and the fog lifted enough to make it easily into the ramp at Matapeake where the BOE Marine transporter was waiting.

A little behind schedule, but no other issues.
The run went without a hitch.

And so another season comes to a close for me. :(

You are putting her up too early...we make the drive up to the Bay from Eastern NC into January to catch the giant stripers. Why so early?

If I owned a trailer, and a truck that could tow this big girl, I'd love to take her to the CBBT for some big fish action.
A 2520 down there would be awesome!
But... since I own neither a trailer or a hauler, and with snow predicted to fall here later this week, I figured it was time.

FWIW... I chartered at the CBBT the past couple of years (on a Parker CC), and the fish were just not there when we were.
Lack of bait, overfishing, or just bad luck... Don't know why, but the fishing was nowhere near what it was in years past.
Hopefully, you guys will do better.

Come on Kev!! While it has been slow, there are some big fish around in our neck of the woods! Got to the 15th to fill your freezer..

Let me know if you want to go!!! Would love to have ya!

Here are a couple from the last week or so..

I tend to catch the little things.......

Kevin- what's with the red and green tape on your bow rail? I know you know the difference.

I do... but those with me many times do not.
It's a teaching tool.
Has worked well too!

"There is a boat crossing our path... do we have the right-of-way?"
Look at the tape. Do they see red or green?

Now you got me fired up for the last weekend to hunt those big girls. Rock season ends here 12/15. I've got a crew lined up to fish Bloody Point Sunday, hope to see you there!

Capt. Kevin,
You just as well get a nice radar for that girl. I use mine nearly every time I go out. Jim at BOE, can fix you right up this winter. Fishing has been pretty good down in my neck of the woods. I'll keep my girl ready to go.

It's on my list of 'wants' Charlie, but every time I seem to get close to buying, something else comes up.
Some day brother. Some day.
