and i guess your statistic of 10 gallons holding 10 fish depends highly on the bait youre using. because the bait Im using, namely spot, can survive alot more cramped that that.

Menhaden. I usually can keep 2 nets full (30-35) in my 30 gallon stock Parker livewell before they started getting oxygen depleted. Being born and raised in NC, I have to admit the first time I ever saw a trash can used for a livewell was in this post.

And they say we're rednecks

We fish with pinfish, grunt, greenbacks. I can keep 3 dozen alive, all day long, no problems. By the way, there's more than 10 gallons of water in there...

I rarely have 3 dozen in the well, cuz, we "rednecks" don't need that much bait to catch our limit!

Okay. Point taken.

...now how exactly did you rig that self cleaning trash can up?

Used a 55 Gallon PP Drum.

Tank drains at 35 Gallons.
I will be installing a 1/2" Poly Pro Top to include a door.

Inverted ban to create a splash guard and give more thickness to the top so I can attach a lid

Thanks for the ideas Guys.

I'll post up the Pics when she is complete

Good Job. Opti is correct in his suggestion that the water coming out into the tank be angled so that the water flows in a clockwise direction. Other than that, the rest is all cosmetic or unique to your baits. Welcome to the Redneck club.

Looks good, I have the same 55 gallon drum in my back yard waiting to be cut up. Would love to see more shots of it in operation on the boat.

Nice job and nice economical alternative to a permanent live well.
