Hi everyone,

Looking for a price check on a heavily modified, 1997 Parker 2520 deep vee with inboard/outboard Volvo penta 8.1Gi. I think we can all agree that the head needs to go back into the cuddy, because it does not belong on the deck. That aside, there is quite the story on this one:

Long story short I did some detective work after talking to the seller. I figured out who originally bought the boat and talked to him about the history. Now, before I start I should say that the seller told me none of this. So, that in itself throws up some red flags. Here goes: Orignal owner bought it and fished it in Alaska. Original owner then moved down south and brought the boat with him. Along the way an axle on the trailer snapped and the boat slid partly off the trailer and was damaged. No structural damage. Only cosmetic. Insurance paid for it to be fixed. Then the owner decides to put $60k into the boat with a new motor, that bathroom, the fiberglass roof extension, etc. He put 80 hrs on the boat before a piece of bark made a scupper stuck open with too much weight, and it sunk. I'm not sure how long it was under, but under 24 hours. The whole boat didn't go under, just the stern. The electronics weren't damaged. I get the feeing water filled the deck but it didn't go all the way under. Insurance company got it out and drained, and sold it back to the original owner as salvage. Original owner then replaced the motor with a used Volvo 8.1Gi from another boat he boat that had 300hrs. Original owner then sold it to the current seller.

Current seller says he had the 3 year old Merc regular 9.9(not prokicker) on hand. He says he bought the trailer for $3500(I think closer to $1000) but it has no brakes. Seller also said he put on a windlass but could not provide any specs. He also said that he chartered about 5 trips in this(hence the 50hr guess for engine hours). Original owner said that the seller may have had some problems with the engine but thinks they might have been solved. Seller has had the boat for 3 years.

So, I'm wondering about a price for a semi-salvaged hull with possible problematic Volvo 8.1. No trailer because I don't want it. No kicker. No electronics. Thoughts on price?

Assume you'll need to re-power, maybe not the outdrive but the motor itself, when considering price. have a thorough survey done too.

Don't blame you about the trailer. A 3-axel without brakes toting 8k of boat? No thank you.
If the hull surveys good, and the wiring wasn't soaked when she swamped, and if the motor check out...
My guess would be no more than $20k on the west coast. Less on the east coast.

Survey will be critical, and you have to be OK with the previous modifications made, so you can make it yours.

I'll keep my comments brief. The Volvo drives are good. If you are going to keep the boat in the water all the time then an I/O is a bad idea. I think the head looks to be done fairly well but I don't think I would have done it myself that way. That said, if you don't like the head where it is then I wouldn't even mess with this boat unless you just like doing the projects more than using the boat? Given the age and the salvage history and the motor issues, I wouldn't pay more than $15K for it. By the way, what are they asking for it? Also, that hull doesn't look like a deep V, I think it's a mod v (14 degree)? Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn't touch it at any price. But I'm old, not patient, not handy, and like to fish, and really don't like worrying about the unknown s--t that can bite you later. But I worked for 45 years without a boat, so I probably missed a lot. I've also lost a lot more than that on the stock market, which makes anything you do smarter than my choices. Your call.
