I bought my Parker about 3 months ago and so far I'm very happy. I did a very good inspection on the boat/motor and had it surveyed. Unfortunately I did not do such a thorough job on the trailer and as such I've had to rebuild the entire brake system. The trailer is 4 years old so it is to be expected.

As I've been working on the trailer I noticed that the previous owner coated the lug nuts and many of the other nuts with a "black" grease. It could be marine grease that has changed colors due to road dirt.

Is this a common practice for trailers used in salt water? I had to use a tap and die to clean the lugs and nuts so I could get them back on.

Any other tips on preventing rust on these items would be appreciated.

I use a product called fluid film, they sell it at tractor or trailer supplies, you spray it on trailer bolts and everywhere you see Galvanize threads, its a thick type spray,do a search on internet, they use it on Coast Guard boats.

its not expensive.

Dont worry about your trailer rusting and having to do new brakes. They need to be replaced every 2 years anyways and the seals on the bearings every year. You pretty much have to figure that a trailer is a consumable good.

Isn't PAINT the coating of choice for preventing rust on metal bridges and metal sturctures?

Luv2fish, good luck with the 21 SC. I have had mine since 2007 and I have been extremely happy with the boat. Had a personal tour of the Parker plant in Beaufort, NC a few months ago and saw a 21 SC in various stages of being built. All I can say is the boat IMHO is built like a Sherman Tank!!!! Mr. Parker and the gang at the factory were awesome during my visit coud.
