It's about time, as their 4-strokes are dogs out of the hole.

See:

My favorite ;)

Or this:

Boats were set up with the motors on either side and either rotation. No matter what the combination, the Evinrude would always plane out the boat on one engine and the Yamaha could not and never did.

That said, the market is definitely for 4-strokes and I'm buying a Suzuki 250 or 300hp from Ed's.

IMO, Yamaha's overwhelming success has been on the back of relibility, quiet, economical.

I agree, I could care less how fast my Parker planes out, my Whaler on the other hand is a different story. She wears a vintage, 1989 Evinrude 2 stroke.

Love all that blue smoke on startup and break neck speed. 8) 8) 8)

Who cares if I leave an oil slick in the creek. :D

No beef there, less maybe economy - see below.

Not too sure if the few $'s saved by buying Susiki is worth the extra noise, poorer milage, and "discount motor" public perception...
Up 'he'yar, I'm seeing more and more Suzi 250s than Yam 250s for the #1 reason - POWER. That Yam 250 ain't a 250hp is you don't run HIGH OCTANE fuel. And with only a few decibels in sound difference, crusie or at WOT, and even though the decible scale is exponential ... no one alive can discern any real noise difference. Personally, I LOVE the growl that Suzi 250 puts out.

I'm having a hard time picking between the 250hp and 300hp though ...

I've driven Honda, Suzuki, and Evinrude on almost identical alloy hulls (Black Lab/Pacific), and I have say that the Etec impressed me the most. The torque, time to plane, and flat out speed was impressive... but even more impressive was the lack of noise.

If I were re-powering my 2520 today, I would seriously consider both the Yamaha and the Etec 250's. It would be a difficult choice to make.

Just turned 500 hours on my November 2005 250 Yamaha on Wednesday.
Buying this engine is the #2 best thing I have ever done. Of course #1 is buying my 2520 to begin with!

Have you seen the cost of the Evinrude 250s? Man they don't give them away  ! Their stock 250hp is a good $5K more than a Suzuki 250hp. I thought about the HO model with the racing-type lower unit, but it was another $2K more! Add to that the extra cost of the $50/gallon synthetic oil .. and forget it.

I agree...100% I just don't like the quality of the Suzuki at any price. It's kind of like repowering a Bentley with a mustang engine in my opinion. The Yammies are a good match for the Parkers if sized correctly. That been said if I went two stroke I would get an E-tech hands down.

I dunno. My buddy has twin Zuke 250's on his 30' CC and those motors do growl and haul!

All tech specs being equal and the price being less, I would have to think long and hard about NOT buying the Zukes.

A 553 lb. F300....now they're talking!!!!!

But I'd settle for a "weatherchanger" at this point...

If merc would make the Optimax quieter, that would be my motor of choice! My optimax was a great motor with ZERO issues.

You just need a deep vee to allow that engine to sit lower so the transom can block some of the noise.

why is there no wake behine the yamaha ...because e tec did let the guy push all the way up look at video

That comparison video with the Yama and ETec and plane test(on a Angler) seems a little fishy. My Yama 250 (225 and 250 have the same power, right  ) on my 23' will knock you out of the boat if hammered. I am thankful for the full transom to help coral the bodies. I have tried to time the plane and it is 3 or 4 seconds, it's hard to run the watch and hang on at the same time.
merchandizing, merchandizing, merchandizing. There both good motors, just that video seems a little off.

True that, but it was pretty noisy.
I was amazed at how quiet the Etec was, even at WOT.
