Looks great. I gave my boat a bath last night and used some bleach. I am going to try to do some waxing between trips and work..

Put in a good day today, tho not a great deal to report.

Put a 2nd coat of wax on the starboard side - done.
Buff Magic, and polish on the transom and the motor bracket - done.
Outboard motor waxed with 2 coats - done.
Worked on the area above the rub rail (leading to the washboards) - 3/4 done. This will be finished tomorrow.
Plugged the batteries in while I worked, now in the green.

Tomorrow I want to work on the trunk cabin.
After that, a LOT of hand detailing. :)

Another busy and fun filled day. :)

Today I finished the area above the rub rail, to the bow pulpit on the starboard side.
Nothing to show, just a lot of detail work.

The major work today was on the pilothouse trunk cabin.
I was only able to get 2/3'rds of the trunk cabin done, because I ran out of clean wool pads for the Makita.
I ordered 6 more last evening, so that issue should be rectified soon.
All of the used ones from today are in the washer getting clean right now.
Don't tell the Admiral. :D

Because the trunk cabin gets a lot more sun than the hull, it was a bit more dull and oxidized, but the Buff Magic brought it back.
Notice that in my first photo the front of the cabin is dull and without shine.
In the second photo, after just the Buff Magic (and before polish), you can see my reflection.
After polish, the shine was even better.

In the last photo, you can see the port side of the trunk cabin.
Notice the reflection of the bow rail in the gelcoat.

That is enough for today, and tomorrow will be a 'day off' from the boat.
Chance of showers tomorrow and a 70% chance of rain tomorrow night.
I will be using the time to get my pelletized lime, and spring fertilizer down on the lawn after I mow for the first time.
The rain will help get everything into the soil and start the greening process.

Gotta keep home and yard looking good too. :D

I have been doing mine in half days so its going a little slower then I like
I really like the way your boat is coming out
I am having similar results cant wait till I hit the hull
I did the cabin and all the top rails and inside the cockpit so far very happy
Buffmagic and polish

Great job Kevin looks awesome!

Thanks Sully!

My days have been more like half days as well.
Errands and appointments in the morning, and get to the boat by 11 or so.
It costs $6.00 to go across the bridge now (no thanks to our governor), so I do try to maximize my time over there.

I did my hull first because the boat needs bottom paint this year and I didn't want my work to hold those guys up.
I did the scraping, sanding and prep. They will do the actual painting.

Hoping to get back to the topsides this weekend!

Looks Great Kev, I might try that buff magic this year, you have kinda sold me on it.

Mike... Watch the YouTube vids on how to use it.
That helped a great deal.

Yea I have an old Craftsman buffer that I have been using for years. Shes a BEAST but does a great job.
However I just did purchase the Shurhold buffer, my cousin Bryan has it and loves it and everyone I have talked to says great things about it. I wont use it on the hull but its going to be nice for around the PH and the cockpit.

Mike I got the buffer this year it is real light and works well
You will like the buff magic and polish
I'm sold !

Wow! She looks like she's right off the factory floor  Awesome Job Kevin! :D :D

Head's Up! Your Starbrite Polish with PTEF is onsale at WM this weekend 30% off, and today only at 50% off!.

http://www.westmarine.com/star-brite--premium-marine-polish-with-ptef--P004_130_002_501

It's normally some very pricey stuff, but based upon your fantastic results I'm going to grab some!

Thanks for the heads up! Got in just under the wire at around 11:30 PM last night.

Gotta take today off and hope to go tomorrow.
Over did it with the buffer on Thurs and yard work on Fri, and my arthritis is paying me back today.
Sucks getting older. :(

Today was a productive day, and the bonus was it was sunny and warm with a light breeze. :)

Began my day by finishing the lower trunk cabin, on the Starboard side.
Buff Magic, Polish, wool pads, and the Makita 9227c

You have *got* to be careful on this part of the boat with the Makita.
That thing is uber powerful, and you cannot let the pad grab because it will take your wrist with it.
You also need to make sure the cord is protected and out of the way or it will get wrapped around the shaft.
Ask me how I know this...

That part of the boat is narrow and it's many feet off the ground, so be careful!

Once the lower trunk cabin was complete, I started on the upper cabin above the trunk.
This includes all of the windows, window frames, the underside of the roof overhangs, as well as the sail panels aft of the side windows.
Lots of fine detail work, all done by hand, using the Starbrite with PTEF product.

Once the upper and lower cabin areas were done, I broke out a product that I bought in the BOE Marine ships store several years ago.
The product is called "Leverage polish and cleaner with UV protectant with polymers".
http://www.jrmarinesupply.com/jrshop/pr ... product=22
I tried it when I first bought it and while it was OK, it wasn't something that knocked my socks off.

This year, I figured I would experiment with it, since it was still sitting on my shelf.

I used it first on the hull which had been done with Buff Magic, Polish, and a top coat of the Starbrite product.
The Leverage product is light blue, mildly opaque, and about as thin as water.
I'd had this stuff for so long the pump sprayer wouldn't work, so I uncapped the bottle and poured some on a small terrycloth remnant.
Then I just wiped down the hull.

The product label says to let the product dry to a haze (which I could barely see), and then buff it gently with a soft cloth.
Dang!
The hull was so slick that if a fly tried to land on it, he'd break a leg. :)

Next, I used the product on the upper and lower trunk cabin.
Remember that the lower was done with Buff Magic and polished by machine.
The upper area was done by hand with the Starbrite with PTEF product.

Same application method.
Pour some Leverage on a terrycloth pad, wipe all the surfaces, then come back with a polish cloth.
The real shocker was seeing those 18 year old black Wynn window frames shine.

I'm going to have to keep an eye on these areas to see how long this product lasts, but my first impression was positive (especially the window frames).

Tomorrows forecast is for a cloudy day and windy, but temps in the mid 60's, so it might be a good day to clean the v-berth and re-install the teak.
Tuesday looks to be a washout. Thunderstorms and rain. :(

Only two photos to show today.
The first is the underside of the roof overhang, which gets really funky dirty with specks of mold. Yuck.
Clean now tho.

The second is just a general shot with the hull and cabin done.
Photo taken late in the day so it doesn't really show how the fiberglass pops in the sunlight.

Nice fish Greg!

I'm not in a hurry, especially for opening day.
Too many once-a-year imports out there on opening weekend making the place a zoo.

I'm making good progress and when she is done, she will get splashed and fished.
Going over today to clean the cabin and to re-install the refinished teak and the v-berth curtain.

Hoping for good weather so I can keep moving...

Weather today was better than forecast, so I was able to get much more done than I had hoped.

First item of business was to wipe down the v-berth with a Simple Green solution and get it all spiffy.
Next, wipe the excess oil from the teak and re-install.

If you do this task, remember that the teak is decorative, not structural.
Snug down the screws, don't torque the $#!t out of em.
The v-berth curtain and tie-back was next, and that part of the cabin is done.
The inside rear section of the cabin walls still need to be done, but that can come later.

Since the weather was cooperating, I decided to hand wax the rear pilothouse sail panels, wax the inside water ridge on the washboards, detail the rear steering station, and then detail the transom portion of the interior cockpit. My fingers are protesting right now...
When the wax was done, I applied the Leverage polish to all of the surfaces. Might as well use it since I have it.

Weather tomorrow is forecast to be thunderstorms with heavy rain, ending tomorrow night as snow.

Thinking my next phase of the project (when the weather allows) is to buff the walkway from the pulpit past the cabin, and then on to the cockpit washboards.
Once that is completed, the rest of my work will all be hand rubbed detailing.
I'm getting closer...
