Kevin: I just lost a reef anchor( long story) on a reef ( sunken liberty ship) 22 miles out. I had 3 strand, and didn't like the way it twisted and knotted in my windlass. I would like to replace it with 300' of braid and 25' of chain in my Lewmar 700 Free fall Profish. 1) do you think that's a decent length of chain and rode, given our locker sizes? 2) how do you go about attaching the 8 braid to the chain? I know on a three strand it's fairly easy, but I've not seen much on the braid/chain combo. Is it possible to wed these two, or do I need to go to a professional ?

It is possible to splice braid to chain, but I don't have those skills. :)
I ordered my 8-plait and chain already 'assembled' from one of the online chandleries.
You can custom order any length and size of rode, or buy one of their standard packages.
I don't recall where I bought mine, but a Google search would most likely give you a number of places to get what you want.

As I recall, the place where I bought my rode even offered stainless BB chain as one of their options.
If in doubt, call them and tell them the make and model of your windlass to get exactly what you need.

New or used, take the screws out and put some type of lock on threads. The screws get loose and they will bend. I lost my first set up due to the screws come off.
