Need some more help folks. I have a 2320 that I trailer a lot my back straps are messing up my gelcoat. Just looking for ideas that work for you guys. If you have some pics or a product that works for straping the back of the boat to the trailer. Thanks Sean

Straps that are dirty and strumming (vibrating in the wind) can eat through paint and gelcoat. I'd suggest cutting some pieces of something soft, like fleece, and positioning it between the strap and the hull. We use firehose, which acts as a chafe protector, and keeps the straps from damaging the bottom paint on our aluminum landing craft.

Sean, What kind of stern straps are you using?
A transom strap that goes completely across the boat like this?

or individual vertical straps like this?

Megabyte I have a stern strap like the top strap but I didnt use it, I also have two like in the bottom picture that I have hooked to the side cleat down to the trailer. I towed the boat for 4 hours the other day it must have vibrated in the wind so the area near the parker sticker got beat up. (need to fix gelcoat :( ) I might try the big strap again with some pading like in the top picture.

I think that might be the most secure option.
If you can get your hands on some carpet samples, they make good strap padding.

I applied some UHMW PE tape to the areas that are in contact with the straps. Tough stuff.

McMaster Carr

Strong & Slippery UHMW Polyethylene Tape 2" Width X 5 Yards Length, .0115" Total Thickness
In stock at $17.86 per Roll

Once you start there you'll find all sorts of places where this stuff comes in handy :D

I had the same issues with the strap making marks on my hull. I purchased a couple of 3/8" shackles and mounted them where I hook my straps on my Load Rite trailer. This also allows for a larger eye to hook the strap to on the trailer. The shackles also straightened the strap. I then purchased a couple of fleese seatbealt pads that use velcro to wrap around the strap. I put the pads on the strap right at the edge of the hull. No more marks on the hull.

 :D :D  Terrific cuz it's simple.

I have a couple dozen brown towels left over from my U.S. Army days and use two just for this issue.

The towels are about 24"x36" I roll one up, put it behind the strap, bring the ends toward me, and put one overhand knot in it. Tug hard on the knot. Does the trick. I tow to the CBBT each Nov and back each Jan/Feb. No vibration or rubbing.

That clear tape gives me another idea, for the bow roller rub area.

I used some towels yesterday with the big strap with no problems. The tape and seatbelt cover idea sound good to, thanks for the help. Now to see if it is worth trying to fix all the small groves in the gelcoat, from my old strap.
