Hi all,
Im considering purchasing a Garmin 1243XSV chart plotter to replace the Lowrance HDS12 GEN2 that was in the boat when purchased. I fish in the great lakes only so depth of 200ft and less is common.
What is the most common way to install a thru hull transducer such as a Airmar B75HW and is there a best location on the hull of the 2014 2510XL?
Thanks for any info

Some Parker models have a flat spot on the keel from the transom moving up the centerline. If you have a flat spot on your boat I would recommend installing approximately 12” forward of the transom in the center of the flat spot.

If you do not have a flat spot then approximately 12” off center and 12”-24” forward of the transom is the next best spot as previously mentioned. Just make sure there is nothing in front of the location that will cause turbulence in the water such a thru-hull fittings.

Once you have the transducer you can also fill a gallon ziplock bag full of water and place the transducer inside of it while connected to your unit. Preferably while someone else drive the boat, open your bilge and put the face of the transducer against the inside of the hull where you think it should be installed. If you get a good reading on your fish finder screen you have confirmed the placement is correct. If the reading has a bunch of interference move the transducer around until the readings are clean. Then mark that spot and install the transducer there.

Attached is a picture of a transducer installed on the flat spot and to the starboard side of center.

Yes this Works.... BUT....It's a LOT harder to do than is written. Use the pix above as a example.... X-Ducer in a Bag of water that the bag can't be sealed, due to the cable. Bouncing around the whole time trying to get a good pix.... Personally.... I've never done that and have installed a LOT of X-Ducers and have corrected the placement of one in a Grady White.... IE: Moved the X-Ducer to a proper position and filled the hole the previous installer made.

One more thing to add.... The flat spot on the keel... You will need a 0 deg X-Ducer there. Off to the STB side....You will need a 20 deg X-Ducer.
