I have a 2520XL that has a fairly large transom storage area but with drain plug on the bottom of the storage area with one on each side of the transom. Is this area used as livewell when you get that option from the manufacture? Since I did not get a livewell option, I would like to convert this to a livewell. However, the area would have to be partitioned off since it is quiet large and I don't want to be chasing the bait fish from one side of the transom to the other. I do have the raw water washdown feature. Has onyone converted this area to livewell and can give me some hints as to what is a good way to modify this area into a livewell. Is the raw water washdown suitable for livewell pump. Is the raw water washdown pump a heavy drain on the battery?

Thanks for you help

I had wanted to do the same thing on my 2520. What I learned from other posts is that the raw water pump is not designed to run continuously and does draw a lot of battery juice. I wound up adding a baitwell pump, tying into the raw water intake valve. They ARE designed to run continiously and don't draw much.

I then bought a sturdy plastic 30 gal garbage can, drilled two holes and put to fittings in. One for raw water in and another for water out. The water out connects to a short garden hose and out the scupper.

The nice thing about this setup is that when you're done fishing, you just take it off the boat and it doesn't take up room or require you to "lose" your transom fish box. Some guys will keep a ton of fish and therefore the transom box is too small, but I only keep what I will eat over the next few weeks and then I go get more.

I will go take some pics if you want.[/i]

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate your offer for the pictures but it isn't needed. But, I would like to know where you mounted the livewell pump, i.e. down under the deck? Make and model number of the pump you used and if you have it the current drain on your battery.
Appreciated your response.

Here you go. It's wired to the same accessory switch the runs the raw water washdown pump. I installed a seperate outlet for the baitwell so I can use both the raw water wash and baitwell at the same time.

I haven't really noticed a significant draw on the battery, but then again I don't have the baitwell running all the time. I will usually fill up the garbabge can, plug the outlet hole and recirculate the water every so often. I haven't lost any bait yet. Also, I use the battery, that has all the electronics hooked to it, on the run out so it gets charged up pretty good.
