I'm planning on moving the boat from Solomons, MD to Norfolk, VA on 13 Dec, then fishing for 4 days. Will leave the boat there and come back several times to fish off the VA and NC coasts in Jan.

Who else has CBBT plans? What are they? If they coincide, maybe we could have a rendezvous to spill some blood...striper blood that is. :D :D :D

I am supposed to be the the first weekend in Dec. However I may move it back a week since the striper run is so late this year. We will see

I went out of Solomons today (11/4) with 9 people from work on a Charter. We caught 20 rockfish up to 32", a few of the bigger fish had sea lice on them so things should start happening very soon.

FYI, Captain ran about an hour and fifteen minutes south of Solomons.

susqking,

what is the significance of the larger ones having sea lice on them; what does that tell you?

I am off work December 13 thru the 20 and going to CBBT a few of those days. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I'll probably be launching from the Cape Charles harbor and running on down. Kiptopeake gets real crowded.

Sal,
Rockfish that have been in the Chesapeake all year don't have sea lice on them. The fish that come in from the ocean have lice on them which tell us Chesapeake anglers the fish that migrated from up north are moving south for the winter. As the fish head south they "usually" work their way up the lower/mid bay before heading south again. This is when the CBBT will be red hot for big fish. Then they move off the coast of Virgina Beach then to North Carolina.

That is one of the reasons I'm not going down at Thanksgiving (my normal tactic). The water temp is still quite a bit higher than normal for this time of year...meaning the winter run will be delayed.

Have been hearing of some good size stripers in the rivers mid-Bay, so I'll hang around here for a couple more weeks than normal.

Just a reminder-- the limit on stripers changes from 2 fish per person to 1 sometime in Dec. and there is a slot. This change was made in late Sept. or early Oct. I can't remember the exact date of change or when it goes into effect. I have tied up with football seven days a week so haven't had time to do any research. We have been having a good run on specks and schooly stripers. :D

That's good. The further back you push your trip, the better my chances get of being able to go. :)

I have to be careful though as the wife gets very stressed that time of year trying to get ready for Christmas...

Push Mary along to deliver early :D

I'm booked into the Navy Lodge on Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base 13-19 Dec. Have stayed here each time I came down since 2004.

Boat is home in the driveway (see my thread on Wheel Bearing Woes). Today and next weekend are boat work days to get her ready to travel and fish.

I'll be there. Not sure when but would like to swap stories over a brew. I usually base it on the Chesapeake Bay season. I spoke with a couple of captains this weekend on the Chesapeake who are leaving next weekend. The fishing was great this weekend  and I'll wait one week after the Chesapeake bite slows. At this pace I am thinking Dec 21, 22, and 23. Let me know if any of you have good luck sooner!

Porkchunker & All, for a little bit of the local's report.

The CBBT has really picked up in the past two weeks, if we cound only get the wind to cooperate. The Rock & Taug bite has been great. Fish last weekend were loaded with sea lice which is a great sign. The best areas I can suggest are the tubes deep. A great back up is the last 300 yds or so just before the third and again deep.

Remember dont hog up the ramp at little creek (Ill forwarn Julie your in route)!

Tight lines,

The wind is going to keep most everyone on shore Monday and Tues. and probably Wednesday. I'll be keeping a close eye on things and I'll probably be out as soon as it is fishable.... and probably sooner. The only things I need to do till next Sunday is decide on whether to hunt or fish..... :D

I will be down the afternoon of Thurs, Dec 20th staying 2 nights at the Kiptopeake Inn... fishing Friday the 21st with Capt Skip Slomski on his Parker 23SE... and leaving Saturday Dec 22nd before the weekend crowds arrive. :D

Can't wait! 8)

Today the winds are hopefully bringing more fish into our area. Steady right now at 29!!!! with some gusts around 35!!!!

I'll be out and about on the waters out of Kiptopeake Dec 5, 6, 7 and 8 and again on 21, 22 and 23.

Give me a hollar..... I always have my radio on scan and will answer to "Fishdoc" or "Escape Hatch" or whatever else I might hear. I will definitely be able to tell you where the fish aren't biting and hopefully tell you where some are biting :D

If you have any problems in my neck of the woods and need a hand with anything give me a call......

Tight lines,

I don't hog the ramp...I'm really fast, both in and out. I only fall off my trailer onto my back in the water in front of a bunch of SEALS. Of course the boat and truck are festooned with Army and Go Army Beat Navy stickers to add to the enjoyment of all Navy folk watching the festivities. :( :(
