Member GW204 knows first hand how difficult it can be to color match Yamaha factory paint.
Hopefully he will see this thread and check-in.

Difficult....very. Impossible....no.

Save yourself the time and $$$ right off the bat. Go to an auto body shop and have them do whatever it is they do to match it for you. They should be able to put it in a quart can or something for you and then you can spray it with a Preval.

I've experimented with Tempo, Moeller and Colorrite paints. Colorrite is the paint you will get from your dealer. For me, it was the worst (color match and application quality) of the three....but I was told my results are not typical but their customer service guy (he offered me a discount on more paint though and gave me some suggestions above what the instructions on the can said). Then came the Moeller. Tempo was the best, but they are out of business now.

Moeller is supposedly coming out with a paint for the '98 and newer Yams, but I haven't seen it on any shelves yet. I might give it a try when it comes out....and I might try the Colorite again as my new motors need some touch up. Those experiments will be on the skegs. If I can't get the match I want, I'll go to the body shop.

Good luck. It's frustrating process...

I got a pen of paint for our 15HP 4-stroke from our local dealer, it matched well enough, and wasn't too expensive. :?

I recently purchased some paint for an 07 F250 from Colorite. I tried the Yamaha dealer and he gave me the number to Colorite. The sales person at Colorite sold me a primer, base coat and clear coat. He said to match the color he needed the last two digits of the part number for the part being painted (not the engine serial number). The Yamaha dealer looked up the part number for me. I have not used it yet so I can not say how well it matches.

Colorite 800-736-7980
