    LED Lights

FWIW red is a lot easier on my eyes than blue or white at night.

    Battery Replacement

I like Deka too. Most of the "regular" ones that West Marine sells are Deka. I try to get them on sale, usually a couple times a year.

    Linwood Parker positive on demand

http://www.tradeonlytoday.com/home/5240 ... -up-demand BOSTON - The boating industry is seeing such gradual growth that people are not likely to notice it happening. “I think three and a half years down the road, things will be so good people will look back and say, ‘When did this happen?’ ”...

    Stern light

I know you're asking how to do this, but...I don't recommend doing this at all. I'm still cursing the previous owner who screwed up the expensive cowl doing this. It's hard to stand on the outboard now, and the stock covers don't fit. It's a PITA to attach/disconnect, especially when the...

    Which Handheld to Buy

Standard Horizon makes a great product...the HX280 simple but yet one of best performing handhelds out there. And it's about $100. It's got AC and DC chargers too! http://www.standardhorizon.com/indexVS. ... Archived=0 I second the 76Cx.

    De-activating reverse trailer brakes

This should do it. We sometimes used a scrap of 1/4" aluminum on the top or side of the slide to keep it from pushing in. C clamp held it in place.

    White Parker's

I don't mind the whiter color, just think the tan trim and parts look terrible not matching.

    White Parker's

I was at Tri State in Deale, MD last week and they said the new "lighter color" ones would be coming in soon.

    Parker 1800 value

If the motor is a throwaway ( or close to it), think about repower cost and how that compares to a newer package. A good Yam 115 2s is 5-6k, plus rigging. If you do it yourself you can save a little money, but there's still things like steering and fuel lines, and then some random stuff. So...

For those that have re-wired their Parkers...

I use regular uninsulated crimps and adhesive lined heat shrink. On really small signal wires, like GPS, I tried the telephone wire style gel filled crimps and they've been great. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... =CT2032231

    Mounting Garelick Ladder

Not sure on the length. I'd do a fender washer on the inside with a regular or AN washer on top of that. Either nylok or an acorn nut with locktite if you're going to be hitting it a lot. I would drill the holes a little oversize and coat with epoxy and let it kick before assembling with...

'91 1700 upgrade and rerig progress

This is the truth. Anyone out there planning a project should keep a little money and time for these things. Thanks Steve, best thing I have done is to get out and use it to figure out what other things I want to do. The real surprise was the plated fasteners that came from Teleflex in the...

Need advice on my thru hull for live well discharge

At least go with a Marelon or other glass reinforced composite fitting, not some pvc or basic nylon. Just to give you an idea... http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... OyaTazNkfs

'91 1700 upgrade and rerig progress

Checked the fuel system before she was splashed, and the tank was in pretty good shape. The hoses were horrible. So they all got replaced. Also moved the filter head from the transom (carefully filling the mounting holes) to under the gunnel. Screwed the new head to a piece of Azek (expanded...

'91 1700 upgrade and rerig progress

During the seatrial I noticed the helm wasn't a no-feedback type. Let go of the wheel and it turns hard over from engine torque. I hate this setup and think it's one of the lest safe things out there. Why they did not spend another 20 bucks or so on the upgraded helm when the rest of the...

'91 1700 upgrade and rerig progress

The next month or so I spent getting it ready to live back in the water, and doing a few major upgrades, mostly safety related. This was Feb/March in Maryland...sucks working in the cold! First had to rip out all the crap it had accumulated in 21 years of life. Old wiring, VHF, stereo...
