Hello,

This is my first time to post but I have been reading the post for quite awhile now. I have been looking at a number of boats over the last year and I have decided on a Parker due to it being a tough no frills boat. I am currently looking at a 2004 2510 MV with a 225 which looks to be in great shape. Is there anything I should be looking for as far as possible defects/ damage areas? I was thinking about getting it surveyed but I am not sure it is necessary. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!

Bryan,
I am going to have him pull the lower unit today and I am going to be there to look at it as well. I really like Parker boats but this motor has made me really nervous due to all of the stuff I have read on THT. If there are no signs of corrosion should I still stay away from buying a boat with these engines? How wide spread has this issue been in the Parker community?

I know of no Parkers with this issue. I will be pulling my boat soon and will inspect the exhaust tubes, I'll have a better opinion then.

FWIW - my F200's have had zero issues and symptoms, the F series Yamahas have been great otherwise.

Thanks for the help... I have one more question... Is a Yamaha extended warranty worth anything other than piece of mind? It is going to cost over a thousand dollars for the warranty and I am wondering if I wouldn't be better off holding on to the money and applying it there are any issue in the future.

That was my original thought when I bought my boat over 4 years ago.

Its a gamble either way, take the thousand and invest it in the stock market, then its working for you. :D

I have the same boat /motor combo. 915 hours on the F225 (2002). It's been a great motor. I fish the upper Chesapeake which is not a salty as an ocean run boat. My mechanic hasn't seen the corrosion issue in my area. It is about a $2000 repair job if it's needed.

Don't believe everything you read on THT.
That site isn't exactly the most authoritative source for information on the 'net.

Not to say there aren't some good folks there (like SIM), but there is a LOT of dis-information to be had over there.

Agreed, you can find a horror story with an product out there, not just boats. The key is to evaluate what you are looking at, weigh the options and agree upon a price that you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for the advice! The more I read the more it sounded like there was more fiction than fact. We are going to drop the lower unit at the beginning of the week. They have previously pulled it and said it looked great but with all the hoopla I really want to see it myself. The gave me the diagnostic print out and it looked good. It has thrown two codes, one at 75.7 hours and the other at 384. The motor has 450 hours on it and 45% are under 2000 rpms, 70% of them were under 4000 rpms and 90% were under 5000 rpms. These number looked good to me considering the size of the boat and the fact that it has a single engine. What do you all think? I am still considering a hull survey but people said there really is no reason due to it being fairly new and its a Parker. Thoughts? How much does the boat weigh loaded? I have a Chevy Avalanche and I am thing it should be able to tow without problem.

I would get a survey,it may cost some money but they will find problems if there are any. It's peace of mind anyway. The corrosian problems are real, however it's a small percentage compared to how many are on the back of boats.

It is as bulletproof of a set up as you will find.

I have a 99 2510 DV. A really nice set up. Good fishing space and a good cabin.

My buddy has the F225 on a 2005. It is like the energizer bunny.

Not sure about the 2510, but rest assured it will weigh a lot more than you think it will based on researching the "dry weight" of the hull, motor, gear, etc. I put together a spreadsheet calculating EVERY ITEM on my 2320 when I bought her, worrying that I would be on the border (or slightly over) with my truck. With the hull, motor, electronics, 1/2 tank of gas, trailer, and gear I estimate the weight at 7,500 lbs or so.

Then I bought her and brought her to a certified scale. I was shocked to find that I was off by about 1,000 lbs!

Shortly thereafter, I bought an old beater 1995 Ford F250 Powerstroke 7.3 to pull her with. I now have two trucks, one which my wife won't let me park in front of the house. :-0

Good luck on the purchase!
