Been pulling a 23DVCC on a 7000# Loadmaster for about 5 seasons. Worked fine for short runs, Not too good for 900 mile 75 mph runs to the Keys in July. The 14" Goodyear Marathons (D) just wouldn't stop swaying or blowing out in summer heat.

Changed out to 15" (D,2500#'s ea.) bias ply. What a difference. Much more confidence, no sway to speak of, no blow-outs. Most 15" D range tires are for 6 lug 5200# axles. I found mine (trailer has 5 lug 3500# axles) at Eastern Marine Online.

Owens and Sons who makes custom boat trailers in St. Pete quit putting the Marathons on their trailers due to the rash of balloons and blowouts. It seems that the problems began when Goodyear outsourced the Marathons to China for manufacture. I think Owens uses Tow Master radials now. Based on this and other recent news, I THINK THE CHINESE ARE OUT TO GET US!

If you google Goodyear Marathon you will see that the blow outs are a big problem nationwide. Personally, I think if you underinflate them (to 40 lbs) then they won't balloon out, but if you run them at full pressure---watch out.

FYI: Swaying usually caused by not enough tongue weight. It can sneak up on you as your truck gas tank gradually gets lighter between fill ups. Load heavy stuff in front of CC, or move jack stand 6 inches forward.

Amen on the tongue weight issue. Boat trailer is just like an arrow. Weight should be at front. I have AirLifts on back of truck to level out trailer.

Part of the blow out problem might have been "plugged tires". Overall, I believe the Goodyears were just too close to their maximum loads. Goodyear sent out a TSB to dealers reccomending going up from 55 to 65psi during "extended hi speeds". Seems 65 is the psi perferred by Goodyear, but DOT wanted a uniform rating system based off 55 psi. :?
